As wide as you can fit in the wheelwell.

I redid my back half last winter and went from a 29.5 X11.5 phoenix to a 14.0X31 goodyear and car has never hooked this consistant, I also set the rear up so I can go to a 14X32W if the need ever arises.

Mini tub dart should easily fit a 10.5 x 29 tire...11.5 if you trim wheel opening lip and get the offset perfect.

with the 29.5X11.5 I had to set the diff back 1.5 to get clearance at the front of the lip and my tubs were even with the stock frame rails.

I think your helper was on to something!
The fastest will be the lightest and narrow, but inconsistent. They may only be fastest on a very well prepped track. Big is best for consistancy, so if you want to win bracket events, go as big as you can.

I agree with Bob the biggest you can fit will be consistent at more venues. That being said I can run 9.30's w/o spin anywhere on a 10.5Wx31.

My Dart is a 68 also, I am running 14 x 32, I need to buy new slicks over the winter, but had considered 17 x 33, I launch around 6200 it's pretty hairy, I am looking for consistency

This topic reminds me of a customer I had in the NYC area some years ago. He had a nicely warmed-over 440 in a 70 Cuda(11.20 car iirc) using a 9 inch stock eliminator tire he got used from a bud he had. Well he wanted a steam roller look .., went the whole route ...spent 5k$ or something like that and SLOWED DOWN a bunch ! ......same gearing same weight .... Just pulling a big tire down the track ....

If bracket racing, the biggest and widest you can fit
in it... if its a heads up type then its a balancing
act to what size... wide tires are a drag going down
the track

Tires alone are a drag... but you have to have them...
look at the fronts we run.. tall skinny ones.. I would
say after about 10" wide they become a larger drag BUT
is that enough to hook on any track

Ya you'll need the dana for sure.I have a mini tub 67 cuda and have a MT 29.5x10.5W. Biggest tire i can fit under it.
