Looking for advise from anyone running headers on a lowered big block. The headers I had purchased hung way below the frame rail. It left me with only about 3" clearance. Looking for a header that does not drop below the frame rail. In a rush, I went and ordered a set of block huggers, which will be fine for the current engine, but would be limiting on future plans.

Close up on the block hugger and clearance work required for them.

I use car headers when I put headers on a lowered truck
They tuck inside the frame rails & you don't see any exhaust pipe except for the tip

I notch the rail & sometimes move a tube to make them fit depending on the car application

1 7/8" Hooker E body headers require the prop valve moved outside on the frame along with a plate weld to the outside of the frame to reinforce it
That's Small Block

Do you need big tube headers? In not then the e body shorty headers will fit really well.

Back when they were first introduced there used to be a bunch of info on here about installing them in the trucks.

And the big plus was they used the ball socket style flange to the lead pipes.

I have always wondered how these would fit, and also about the spark plug interference?

This is a 400, not sure how much more clearence would be needed for a 440. I am sure these will be fine for the 400, but there is always the thought of a built 440 or stoker. I am impressed with these block huggers, for what they are, hell these things have a 7/16 flange on them.

I am going to be gone all next week, but when I get back I will get the plug wires on and get some pics.
