Thought I'd start a thread in here to document my '71 Road Runner project. This will be done as i have the extra cash, so it will be several years before it'll be road ready.

Here is the rundown on the car:
N95 Emission Control
P31 Power Windows
R11 Economy AM Radio
V21 Hood Performance Treatment
Y16 Sales Bank
26 26" Radiator
EV2 Tor-red
U USA
A87 Décor package
B11 HD Drum Brakes
M21 Drip Rail Moldings
N41 Dual Exhaust
EV2 Tor-red
H2X9 Black Bench Seat
TX9 Black Upper Door Panel
707 7-Jul
299935 Order number
E55 340 4 BBl
D32 Heavy Duty Auto Trans

I found the ad on Craigslist and it stuck out to me because I've always wanted a Tor-Red Road Runner. I picked it up near Quapaw, OK and hauled it home with my oldest boy and his Grandpa riding shotgun. The car as it sat when I bought it:

Since then I've basically just been gathering parts. I just purchased a used (home-made but well built) rotisserie and am working on dis-assembly. The plan is to have it ready to media blast soon and have that done and prime it as soon as I can. I've got AMD metal ready to go on after that.

As far as what the plan is, it's going to be taken mostly back to how it left the factory. EV2, black bench seat interior, but I may add the strobe stripe and tips. I'm still undecided if I'm going to go 340, stroked small block, or big block. I have plenty of time to decide that, though.

Anyway, here it is as it sits right now:

Always loved Road Runners, looks like you have a well thought out plan of attack. What are your plans for stripping the paint and your timeline for stripping it and putting it in primer? How much are you tackling yourself?

I have a connection to get it media blasted at a great price. By the time I'm ready though, we'll probably have snow on the ground which won't bid well for moving the car around the yard where it'll be blasted, so it'll probably have to wait until spring. After blasting it'll go to the paint shop for epoxy primer, then back to my place.

I plan to do all (or as much as I can) the metal work and paint prep work myself. I'll be painted elsewhere, but again I want to do as much myself as possible. I did my Dart Sport myself back in High School/College, so I have some experience, but I'll be trying to take this one to a better level than that one. I want to end up with a very nice driver that will fit in on the showfield.

This won't be a fast-moving thread, so don't hold your breath waiting for progress updates...
