Who made the headers? Do they have slip-on collectors? I had Hedman Husler 2-1/4" headers in my Duster, and the collectors did not hit the trans.

hooker super comps 2 1/4 the drivers side looks like it will work fine I have to redo the steering shaft on it has a alterkation front but it looks like it will clear the trans pan I have one tube on that side to see. they also touch the main studs on the side of the block. how bad is that going to hurt the trans as im sure it will put a lot of heat into it would it help if I put header wrap where it touches if I can

Depending on whose heads you are using(raised or std. port)and if you have a thick cast tranny pan you may need to clearence things slightly. If you gain 1/8" air space you will be fine.Sometimes add a thicker header gasket will work also.

Mine are Hedmans. The flanges pointed the exhaust right into the tranny cross member. So I had the collectors redone and made them longer and into an S shape to get them into the exhaust reliefs in the cross member. It is close to the tranny, but not bad. It's actually tighter on the driver's side on mine.

I had heard that the fit wasn't that good with these headers, so I ordered them without coating expecting to mod them up.

Then they went to CCP Coatings. CCP did the best coating job I have ever had on a set of headers. They are all I will use in the future.

Use the same Header on my '68. The tubes didn't hit the pan, but couldn't get the trans shield on. Heated the tubes at the last bend before the collector and bent out. Had about 8 hrs. fitting these the first time. ( Hooker 2 1/4") They go in and out easy now. Originally had Headman, 2 1/8", took 40 hrs. the first time. Was told Hedman's jig was damaged. I have a stock front suspension. Vanke told me that the reason for the tight clearance on the pan , was that Hookers original jig was made from his original '68, which was a four speed. ( narrower trans., makes sense).

Your problem is you have elephant a ear front mount, you probably could move the engine a inch by just loosening up the water pump bolts and rotating the engine. Get a motor plate from AndyF.

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

Don't get frustrated. Every spot that you referenced had to be clearanced on my car. Its normal when putting a hemi in an A-body.

If fabrication isn't your thing you may be better off with a SB.

Those hoooker headers will hit stuff. no way around it. The only thing you could do is have a header builder rework a couple tubes, or put a few dents in it.

well an old school Hemi is certainly a combo it never had. But with the motor plate it could be moved slightly to allow for clearance. Unless you are using the midplate as well. Then you will need to do some fab work to move it. Same kind of stuff was done to convert from a BB to the 99

I ended up having 3 tubes and both collectors reworked and still had to cut 2 notches in the frame.

Fitting the old Keith Black block into my Dart was so difficult, I had to block the body up as high as I could get it and then raise the engine up into place with a cherry picker and the tranny with a jack until I found a problem point. Then, remove the engine and tranny so I could address the issue.

31 times! But it fits good and I am happy that it is over.
