I am finally starting resto on my 68 Coronet 500, 383 2bbl. My build sheet has the following info:
under tires 43-44: code 51
under build codes wheels: code 16B
under build codes wheel covers: 64
under fleet codes 647: 7
I believe the 64 is premium wheel covers and I believe the fleet code means heavy duty steel wheels. So given this info, what is the correct wheel and tire for this car. Is it 14x5.5 steel wheels? Thanks in advance for your help.

1968 Coronet 500, 383 2bbl.
tires 43-44: code 51 = 8.25x14 "blackwall" tires ($27.90 on a hardtop)
wheels: code 16B = 14x5.5" wheels - painted "BLACK"
wheel covers: 64 = 2881764 - "DELUXE wheel covers" sales code 581 - there should be a "1" under "hub caps/wheel covers 58_" middle of b'cast sheet ($21.30)
fleet codes 647: 7 = 647 HD suspension - Does the car have a trailer towing package "359" under "SPL. PKGS."?

Thanks a million. Those are the wheel covers I bought, so I was right on that. The wheels are tires are also what I thought, but found some conflicting info in some books so I thought I would ask the experts. There isn't a tow package, but the guy who special ordered the car did some goofy things like the color combination (red with black interior but white vinyl top, ordered rear defrost, but only an AM radio, etc). I appreciate you taking the time to clear things up for me.

LOL I was looking at those yesterday, but wanted to verify they were correct before I ordered. I will place the order this week!

I suggest putting the 14s away and go to 15 inch tires and wheels, Coronets have such big wheel wells that 14s just don't look right, besides 14 inch tires are getting hard to find

I have 15s on my 69

Welcome to MOPARTS! I see nothing "goofy" or odd about the car, & it would've been "ORDERED" not special ordered - there's nothing "SPECIAL" about it. Red exterior - very popular. Black interior very popular, it doesn't show dirt. White vinyl top, does it have A/C? - the white top keeps the heat down. AM radio was $61.55 - the ONLY other radio OPTION was AM w/8-track stereo for $196.25 - I'd bet somewhere around 80% of the 500 2 door hardtops had the AM radio.

The "rallye suspension" (heavy-duty) was a $22.60 OPTION.

Sorry for the misuse of the term special ordered. I didn't mean to imply that it was any better or different than the other Coronets. It does have AC and the light package. I just think the color combo is goofy, but all a matter of taste I guess.
