Anyone ever tried the Thumpr series cams from Comp. My Hemi came with one and I'm not sure what to expect. It looks like they give more duration to give them a choppy idle. This one is a hydraulic flat tappet and has a valve lift of .508int and .479ex and has advertised duration of 279°int and 296°ex. RPM range is 2000-5800 and calls for 9:1 compression and 2500 stall. I will be running a 4 speed and will be around 10:1 and a different crank is in the works to grow it to a 477. Going in a street car. Anyone have any thoughts on the subject? thanks

I tested a Thumper, Magnum, and Factory muscle grind all from Comp rated for the same general RPM range in a 360 for Mopar Muscle. I dont think they have it on their website yet though. The magazine issue it was in came out a couplemonths ago.

For just a few pennies more you can go with a Doug Herbert solid roller camshaft. They can spec you a great Hot Street type camshaft and nothing sounds better than a roller and get a Big Boost in power as well. They are very street friendly and about the Best Cam I have found for the $$$ I have put them in a lot of Street Cars.

PS I would not tell you this if I had not used them with good results myself.

I have heard quite alot about these cams. Some claim they are all sound and no performance, some claim great performance and sound. Others claim they were originally designed for endurance racing, I believe?

Although I like the way these cams sound, are you giving up much power and torque with these?

i have a great cam in mine. mien is a 472, but otherwise isn't that far from stock. it's a comp cam, .582/.546 241/241 113 lsa.

it's a hydraulic, very nice idle, just a little lopey. great power all through the range. i would think that it would work well in a fairly stock 426 as well.

I have one in my 360,sounds really good and I still have the lame exhaust manifolds in my '66 Barracuda.
I was originally looking at a Extreme Energy cam but when I was working at the speed shop still our sales rep at Comp who happens to be the head tech guy, said the Thumpr cam makes more peer than the Extreme.

They make very good power for a mild lift camshaft...very wide spread of power and sound great.
Are there better cams, yeah probably but they work good in the engines I've run them in and you don't need an expensive rocker arm if you use the thumpr.

This recommendation makes sense to me, but I'm curious on what your reasoning is?

Is it because it already has enough CR / put the power higher in the range where the hemi wants it, or because it is a 4 speed?
