Has anyone else come across this? I started taking apart this 1968 dated alternator to restore it and thought the plastic / bakalite housing was a repro or after market but once I got it opened up, the Mopar logo was there as well as the part number. I have always known these to be white and never black.

Do I have something unique?

Brian,
What is the part number on the barrel? For your late 68 it should be 2095150. The barrel in the pics with the phillip screws are usually on the 2875560 barrel.

Hi Chargercrazed,

The stamped number on the barrel is kind of hard to read due to the pitting. It seems to be 2095150 with a date code of 148. I will say this. When I took everything apart, it appears to have never been apart or rebuilt before as the aluminum housing has never been bead blasted and still has the smooth green sand cast finish to it. Also, the aluminum housing date coding coincides with the date coding on the barrel. Judging by how dried up the grease was inside this unit, I would feel very safe in saying that this was an original, unmolested or rebuilt starter.
