Broke a universal and messed up the yoke on my 8 3/4 489 housing rear in my Barracuda Sunday.

It has a 10 spline gear set in it.

A yoke from a 10 spline 742 is the same right?

I think since I have to replace everything at the back of the drive shaft I am going to switch to a 1350 series U joint and get a U1607 strange yoke off of Summit.

It lists the U1607 for a 742 case so was just making sure.

The yokes are the same. There is a coarse spline (what you have) and a fine spline. I believe the 8.25 yoke is the same but don't take me to the bank on that one.

Back in the swing of things at Painless again! Great to be back!

Thats what I thought I remembered but needed to make sure as I have to have this back together for the SBRA finals at Mason Thursday.

Thanks!

If that's a torqueflite automatic car and you broke it in 1st gear you better look at the over running clutch in the trans before it goes back out.

Yep pulled the tranny out as soon as I got home Sunday night because I figured the sprag would be hurt but the rollers and springs look fine.

Got lucky I guess because I caught it quick. Only went to 6000 RPM.

Better have a crush sleeve eliminator in it also. The new yolk has to be set as the crush sleeve is a pain.Thats why when they get rebuilt the eliminator goes in.Rocky
