Since Advanced Auto Parts has bought Car Quest are they closing all the machine shops?? I heard Advanced does not do and does not want to do machine shops????

Friend of mine is the Machinist at a Car Quest up hear in canada and Tuesday while the deal was being announced in the USA a Guy from head office in Toronto came in and said send him home and close the shop till at least January??

Couple of our friends have their their motors sitting there and are worried.

Better get them out now. My GF works at a Car Quest here and when they took it over from Central Auto Parts they closed the machine shop. Advance will probably do the same.

It also depends on if the store is company owned or an independent. The independent's will keep their shops open.

But will the independents remain is the real unknown. Advance stores are all company owned.

I dropped my block off at the carquest in London Friday. He never mentioned anything. In fact I know they have added some new equipment lately. Hope we don't lose them. They are a great shop to deal with.

Sure they'll be around. Advance taking over has nothing to do with the independents. Independents
might make a move to another flag, but in no way will Advance try telling them what they can and can't do. So you may drop off your work at Carquest but pick it up later at a Napa. lol

So does this mean all the people working at the CQ stores now won't be able to read a parts catalog. The people here at Advance are plumb dumb when they have to go to a book. Not much better with a computer! Beep

I just now asked the store manager at my local Car Quest whether there machine shop is going to close?

He was pretty sure they were going to keep there machine shop, but he said he hasn't heard from his boss for sure how all this is going to play out.

Thanks above stated Londons machine shop is still going but they closed Kitchener supposedly till at least January? Now Kitchener had been slow working 25 hours but he had been picking it up and more work to push out.

Yes they mentioned they were supposed to be getting a line hone. The shop manager was in Kitchener yesterday to get their big block dodge torque plate to hone my block.
They knew about the sale but nothing about the shop closing. They felt they were safe because their shop makes money.

I know Perry has lent them to him before but they should not have been lending out perry's tools after laying him off without asking him!

That's great and the way it should be. May be that I just get tired of them bringing the wrong parts to the counter. I have since started looking them up on line first and just give them the part numbers for what I need. If they need to break out the books I ask to see it as well. Come to think of it, it probably is me. The older I get, the less patience I have.....Beep
