I found and purchased my number's matching A56 that I bought new in 1969, special thanks to BB-Dave! She is a survivor!

The engine is being rebuilt. Brakes are done. I hope to have her on the street in 2014!

The photo shows the 44 year old paint. I am going to leave her "as is" for now.

I was newly wed and the car was not a winter time vehicle. So the 'ex and I traded it off.

I had found the car in 1995 but was not in a position to purchase it then, so let it pass. This past May I went on a search again and found the car!

I was able to make arrangements to purchase it! It is a numbers matching 69 340 4 speed 3:91 Sure Grip notchback 'Cuda.

I am building the engine to be able to run on 91 Octane fuel. It will be a "survivor" driver.

The attachment show the car and me in 1969. And also shows BB-Dave and me in 2013. I had not seen the car since 1970!

Congrats on the find and a cool car to boot!! Don't paint it, leave it as is. Can't wait to see more of it!

Here are two more photos, one from 1969 and one from 2013. I am going to take a photo with the trophies (I still have them)with a similar pose when I get the car out and running.

I have done a lot of work on the car. But the heavy lifting is yet to come, get everything back together!

Under hood is painted. Engine bay will be soda blasted on Monday. Should have that painted by the end of the week.

Plates went on today. This is what a lot of Fords and Gm products will see in the near future.

After 5 weeks of waiting on a cam shaft to ship, I cancelled the order and went to a different supplier. I ordered a CS1019R which should work good with the 4 speed and the 3:91 gear.

With luck the motor will be together in a week or so. I had the A833 checked out and all it needed was seals and gaskets. My carb has been rebuilt.

Once I have the motor in my possesion and the engine bay is painted, in it goes! I might make Christmas yet to have it running!

The good ol' South Dakota winter has slowed up my project. The engine bay has been on hold, my body shop buddy has some profitable projects going on, so I told him to take care of those customers that make him money 1st! lol Actually, we decided to do a little more work before he paints the engine compartment, easier now then after the drive train goes in.

I had to round up a few more parts for the engine. Those came in this week. If the weather breaks, I plan on making the 350 mile round trip to pickup the engine. The goal is to do the "just in time" scenario in putting the car together. Spring time is a realistic goal now.

Engine has been built! I am planning on picking it up this weekend, the 4th and installing it back in the painted engine bay on the 5th. I am waiting for the trans to be put back together and then in it goes.

I have ordered the last parts needed and will move the 'Cuda into our business shop for final assembly! The 340 should rock again soon for the 1st time in several years, maybe 20 or more!

My latest photos won't resize, but I will give some updates. The drive train is installed.

The only thing left to do is install the new gas tank that I had to ordered. I pulled the old one, it was not salvageable. The new one will be installed this Sat.

Then over to the exhaust shop. I decided to use the original exhaust manifolds instead of headers. I want to keep it as close to factory as I can.

Once the exhaust is done, I will fire the car! Then the 2nd maiden voyage, 45 years later!

I am attaching and engine bay photo. The car is probably coming out of the body shop this week. I will then attach a photo of it then also.

Here is a new photo. Exhaust is being done on Monday. I hope to drive it this week end.

I still have some issues to resolve. Expected though.

Fired the 340 today, it sounded really good! I have some issues to resolve, but was able to take the 'Cuda for a short drive. The last time I did that was in 1969!

I had to replace the 741 chunk, my 3:91's were bad and it is next to impossible to find them for a 741. I found a good 742 3:55 Sure Grip and was also able to get a set of 3:91's for later.

I made the "maiden" voyage again after 45 years. Still grinnin' this morning.

I have put about 300 miles on the 'Cuda to date. I have been fighting vibration problems. One has been taken care of, bad drive shaft. I still have one in the trans area, not sure what it is yet.

I ran the car up to 5500 rpm in 3rd tonight. It pulled HARD!

I am not ready for the 1st drag strip pass since 1969, but I am close.

Attached is a photo taken Sat 8/9/2014 in my home town of Forestburg, SD. This is in front of the old post office. My uncle was the post master for many years. The 'Cuda set in this same location many times 45 years ago. I drove the car on a 260 mile round trip to a local car show. The car ran great and i got a trophy! Had a great time.

I have the original hub caps stuck somewhere Dave. I just have to find them. Unfortunately the trans has to come out. I am going to replace the pressure plate, clutch and flywheel. I still have a drive line vibration, and it is clutch related.

I am replacing the flywheel with a billet SFI approved one plus a good street/strip pressure plate and clutch. I still have a pinion seal leak issue with the chunk. That is probably going to have to be replaced also. Just money!

The goal is to make a drag strip pass yet this year. The local track is open until Oct. I hope to have all the issues cleared up by then.

I got the vibration issued taken care of. A bent water pump pulley and clutch issues.

I did not get a good run at the local strip. Rear spring issues. By the time I got those taken care of, Oahe had closed for the season. So, I made the 620 mile round trip to KRP at Kearney, NE.

Time slip from my trip KRP in Kearney, NE. 14:74 at 96.26. With the altitude factor (2100 feet), it is 14:50 at sea level. That is what the car ran in 1969. Mission acomplished!

Curt, glad to hear!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe you can work on some of my other cars!!!!!

I'm the CARETAKER of Weinstats '69 440 'cuda registry and have 104 of the 360 cars to date. 84 fastbacks/20 coupes. Always looking for new(REAL M-code) '69 440 'cudas to add to the registry so drop me a note if any are found or known. This isn't a publicly released registry. Thanks, Dave

Dave, my quota for crawling under the car is 1000 times per year. I have met that! Maybe I can do it next year! lol

Ha: I'm sick of crawling under mine too. At least yours is on the road (and track).
