I shut the passenger door on one of my 70 Sport Furys and the adhesive on the glass/mirror let go and the it fell to the driveway and broke. The chrome housing is really nice. I have a used mirror with lots of pits in the chrome. Is it possible to remove the glass/mirror from the pitted housing and put it on the good housing? I guess I am not to worried about finding a good adhesive to reattach, but how do I get the glass off the pitted housing with out breaking it? Or is this a lost cause?

One time working on a parts car, I had a rag soaked in lacquer thinner that I tossed over the mirror to dry. After a couple of minutes, the lens fell out! It was in direct sunlite, really not sure why it popped, but it did.
