I'm getting ready to convert my dart sport from a 904 to an A518 and I would like to see how others have supported the engine while doing to conversion work on the tunnel.

Thanks

Bottle jack and a 2 X 6 under the rear of the pan allows you to move it up and down as needed for fitting, reinstall, etc.

Old, tired, and sometimes broke down. Me, not my car...

Whenever I've pulled a trans,
I use an engine hoist attached to the back of the block,
It allows me to raise and lower the motor where I need it and
Best of all,
It keeps everything out of my way under the car when I need to maneuver the trans in and out of place.

X2 especially if you have a good trans jack.

while attaching the trans to the engine, I like letting the engine hang down in the back, because it gives more room around the top of the bell up in the trans tunnel to work with while attaching the hardware. once it's bolted together, I like to use a floor jack on the trans to lift it up into position while working the trans cross member into place.

An engine hoist works well. Small block heads have unused bolt holes on the firewall side that are great attachment point. The same holes that would be used for the neg bat cable and alt bracket. The downsides are the hoist legs in yer way under the car and the hydrolic bottle bleeding down a bit over night.

I prefer using wood blocks under the oil pan. A scrap bit of 6x6 and shims as needed. Unbolt the trans mount, lift the tail a bit to lift the back of the block. Get the post in there then let it down and unbolt. The opportunity for cursing is when the trans jack and the support post want to occupy the same bit of garage floor.

Tranny shops use a gizmo that is basicly a bit of squre tube under the pan and adjustable j-hooks for grabbing the frame somewhere. Have seen harbor frieght / norhern tool variants.

Thanks

I found and old screw jack that worked great with a block of wood under the oil pan. The 904 transmission is out and the cross member is modified to fit a 518 now.
