I would run a single Borg warner S500-88. Has big enough turbine to support a V8 engine and support you power goals.
Would also run at least 9:1 compression and keep the cam around 230-240 duration @ .050 using solid roller.

No way you can do that with any stock parts, blocks, heads, crank and so on I would start with all new race parts and be very careful and choosy on which parts I bought, big C.I. short block, 434 C.I. or bigger, big heads and intake and F.I. or multiple carbs My 2750 lb. tube chasi Cuda race car with a 675 HP BB on E85 will run real close to 8.99 now at 145 MPH, your wanting to do that with another 850 lbs in the car on pump gas Keep us updated

8.90 needs roughly 1000hp @ 3600lbs. It would be very tough on pump gas. It's going to take top notch parts, at least E85 and 25 PSI is my bet.

I am not sure a stock Gen III block can take that kind of power consistantly. And I think you will need a little more than 1,000 hp to get in the 8's at 3600 lbs. If so, use that, if not, aftermarket block.

Other than that, a properly sized turbo with a matched camshaft and good heads should get you there. I would suggest FI at the power level.

Don't expect it to be cheap!

FI and intercooling a must at this power level. Precise fuel and spark management will be needed to make it live.

Them Chevy guys on Yellowbullet say you can make a easy 1000 hp with a stock ls with a turbo. I think they are smoking something though....

1.33 60 ft,6.21 at 110.59 in the 1/8, pump gas small block,2950lbs,drag radials,mufflers and driven to track ...

There's plenty of quick ones , but. Show me 8 seconds on pump gas @3600. I think not, but I'd be impressed.

do you truly realize what you're asking?

first you need 1000+ HP, then you need the chassis to put it down. and you want to do this on pump swill with a single turbo SB

good luck with that

chevy guys think their 383 strokers make 500hp at the rear wheels w/ a small hydro cam.
My buddy runs a tube chassis Omni w/ a 392ish 360 based SB w/ W2 or 5 heads, I can never remember, 1x100mm turbo no inner cooler, turbo 400 trans, 3.73 gears and runs 8's on easy passes (foot brake). Car has run 174mph on 3/4 pass. I think he runs a 670ish solid roller, too hear him talk the bottom end isn't much at all... it's all in the turbo.
It can be done, but with all your weight you're gonna need a BIG turbo or twins... He's on here from time to time, his user name is Raymond. PM him. He's a wealth of knowledge.

E85 has already been 7's on V6 turbo motor so just about anything can be done.

That car is getting it done for sure, but as mentioned is on e85 not pump gas.

Also there is a 25 page thread of gawker following it too. Definately the exception to the norm.

That being said a new hemi could do it. I know everyone freaks out when you mention big power and stock parts, but the turbo stuff is sooo easy on parts. My stock block, cast crank, stock rod 360 has been 136mph @3700 lbs with 20psi. Now that's not 1000hp but I bet it's close to 750hp. But it's all parts that would never like at this power level n/a either.

My next build will be a new hemi. The most I've heard on a stock block is 1350hp. But I've seen a bunch at the 1000hp level.

No way would I try it on pump gas though. Just set up two tunes if you really want pump gas. 6~700hp low boost for the street, and turn it up with good fuel.

Hard to say where the dollars of the build start and stop. Do mufflers, fuel lines, and radiators count? Or are you asking about just the motor? I was building a grandma virgin sleeper from scratch so I had a lot of nickel and dime stuff. If someone had a 12sec small block decent street car to start with it could be done pretty cheap.

Assuming the motor was good and all you were doing was swapping pistons and cam to lower compression and get the turbo cam in it, and putting a tight converter in it... I bet it could be done for just about $3500~$4000 if you did all the work yourself.

But that is just a street car. If you want to try and bracket race it, add boost controller, digital ignition, trans brake, etc... It can add up for that stuff.

Maybe I should start selling kits... Lol

I had a b engine, factory block, modified factory caps, factory crank, running in the 8s at 3700lbs with 3.50 gears, on pump gas. You need to throw out all the so called "turbo secrets". You want a cam that somewhat contaminates the intake charge. A bit of "EGR effect" helps with pump gas. The weak part of the factory blocks(if tuned correctly) is the cylinder walls. They WILL get barrel shaped. This is because you are making power all the way down the bore.(assuming you have the timing where it should be) Most important is the tune. EFI and D.I.S. are must haves, and boost levels should not be limited to anything most people suggest.
