I just dropped a 431 stroker into a 71 cuda with a Edelbrock performer RPM intake and a Edelbrock thunder series AVS carb. With the hood off, it doesnt look like there is much room for an air cleaner,
any ideas?

Are you trying to make it look stock or is an after market air cleaner ok? Summit sells drop air cleaner so you could try there. Some guys were using a Ford brand drop air cleaner base that was the same size as the 68-69 unsilenced Chrysler air cleaner and they could use the top. But for 71 you had the dual snorkel.

You''l need a drop base air cleaner assembly with a 3" element , NOTHING factory is going to fit under a ralley hood.

We had a drop base and a 2" air filter in a 73 Challenger (should be similar). Very restrictive though. Put clay 5 points on the lid (center and 4 points at edges) and close gently to see if there is clearance.
