Had vent moved to rear of case among other mods on the 727 as I was going to run a trans brake. I abandoned the brake idea for now so currently running a forward pattern manual VB. Now, every pass it's losing a substantial amount of fluid through the rear vent. Everyone says it starts smoking half track and when I get back to check everything is dripping wet and exhaust is brown where it's burning it off. Tried running fluid level a tad low just to see but no change. The vent is just like the one in the pic and in same location. The vent cap has slight spring pressure when lifted as I would expect. When I check for the source of the leak it all points to the rear vent. Anyone ever had that problem or any ideas?

Plug that off and move it to the top of the tailshaft housing. Maybe add a short extension to it if you have the room or run a hose off it to a higher point like on top of the bell housing.

I've yet to put mine in the car but I installed a 90 degree barb fitting in the tailshaft with plans on running it up to the firewall with a small breather tank. Maybe getting the vent up to the firewall will help you out.

I bet it's an A & A trans brake valve body
You need to put a catch can if its an A & A

My vent was on the tailshaft, over the Parking ring, thought the gear was throwing oil out the vent, moved it back further, still leaked. No transbrake, does wheelstand. Put a catch can on, vented up to firewall. Can has a petcock which I drain every 3-4 passes, about a shot glass full. I 've heard this is a common problem with Turbo 400's. Mine's a 727, manual, rollerized, alum. drums etc.

move it up to the next pocket in the casting, the pic shows where the one is on my 904 and have never had a leak.

I still use the stock vent in my 904 with a TA tranzbrake and it has never leaked.

In the instructions I got when I was relocating my vent rearward, it specifically stated that there was an oil feed hole in the parking ring that MUST be plugged otherwise fluid would be spewed outwards to the relocated vent. I think those instructions come from John Cope if I'm not mistaken. I know I have never had a drop of oil come out of the relocated vent as the OP has posted and I did drill and tap that hole for a set screw plug..

Mines in the next cavity up. I have 1/4 push lock going to a small 5 oz. catch can near the license plate. 100 passes, never had to empty it. No trans brake.

Had to do this on the Duster also. Pushes into a vented tank and then drains back when not under pressure. Works good

Thanks guys for the responses and good ideas. I like the vented can self drain back idea. Vent line plumbed to bottom of can and vent near top maybe with filter similar to pic but no valve or leave open. Thanks again

Mine vent is in the same place as the pic. been there for years. Not a drop out of it. need to read what is posted above.

I have relocated at least a dozen to the same position as the OP picture and have never had 1 leak yet.
but I have never used a griner or A&A VB either.

As already mentioned, the oil feed hole to the govenor needs to be blocked, or run a catch can.
