What is the biggest camshaft for 318 that will not cause problems with power brakes? I'm looking at 0.050 duration numbers but they don't tell me much.

Depends on the rest of the engine package. Usually something under 215° @ .050 is a safe bet and an intake centerline of 112-114.

Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.

Post the #'s and let us see them. You would be suprised as I have a good size flat tappet in my 63 and still use my power brakes. Ron

I run the MP 268/272 .450/.455 cam in my 340 and have no loss of braking power in my 81 shorty.. In a 318 I wouldnt go bigger than something in the .474 range..

I am truckless..

I ran this lunati roller cam in a 318 with 360 heads and then in a 318 with #302 heads. worked very good in a 85 truck. stock smooth idle,18-19 mpg/hwy

used all stock valve gear and roller lifters with comp 901-16 springs.

258/264
207/213 @.050
.458/.485 lift
108/110 ICL/LSA

went to the hughes whiplash roller cam for a 318 and is almost exact same specs but with a much tighter LSA for a choppy idle

208/213 @ .050
102/107 ICL/LSA
.480/.487 lift

just like it said, idles like a funny car and smooths right out with lots of lowend torque right off idle. light throttle drives like stock/heavy throttle torques right up and pull hard to 5500 rpm.

I have 2 whiplash 318 roller cams now and 1 flat tappet whiplash for my 440 truck going in.
