The 413 in the wagon is making some not so good noises. I was given a '74 440m block thats already been .030 over. Going to have it checked out and see if it will clean up with a hone, or needs to go over a tad more. Going to use the crank and rods from the 413, and order a kit with pistons, rings, bearings, etc. I have a set of rpm heads, 84cc., a performer rpm intake, 850 holley vacuum secondary, 2,600 stall ptc converter, and 3.73 gears. what would be a good cam to take advantage of the rpm heads? I have indy rockers also. Willing to go up on the stall if need be, but it is a budget build, so no roller cam. would like to try to keep all cost with machine work around $2,000. A friend is doing the assembly, he just doesn't have a tools for the machine work. Rebuild kit with good pistons is about $800, so that leaves some room for extras, not including a new converter. Don't want to go stroker, because that at least $2,000 just for the kit, then it all must be checked and balanced, and i would also need to redo my fuel system at that point. Thanks for any help you guys can give. Car weighs about 4,300lbs and will have a/c.

I built a 383 stroker (440 length stroke, 440 length rods, short pistons) at .060 over on the 383 block, it was basically a .010 under 440 stuffed into a 383 block.
eddy heads out of the box, RPM intake, 10.5 compression with flat top pistons at zero deck, .039 fel pro head gaskets.
Torque was flat at over 500 ft lbs from 3000 rpm through about 5400 rpm before it started to trickle off, peak torque was 535 ft lbs at around 3800 rpm.
Hp peaked around 5600-5800 rpm at 505hp.
(numbers are engine dyno)
I think for a mild street build, you'll love that XE275HL.

Looking at no more than 10.2 with the available pistons. We have 93 octane here. Thanks for the input everyone. Pleas keep it coming.

I don't know Keith, When I read the OP, I immediately thought, "He wants to run 9's on 2 stages!" But maybe I was reaching a little...

I am running those heads, home ported with 9:5 CR on a 440 with a solid Cam from Racer Brown with 254@.050 duration .554 Int .525 exh lift. 1.6 rockers on Int.. My challenger is@ 3800 lbs with me in it. With 4.30 gears and an 8" ATI converter I run 11.20s @ 119-121 mph. Think it may be a little quicker with 4.10s. This is through mufflers and ET street radials.

You state no roller which is fine, but do you want a solid or hydraulic flat tappet? Power brakes a concern? Smooth idle and good vacuum a priority ? People tend to suggest a cam they use and like without knowing what your intentions are. Keith
the cam I had provided enough vacuum for my power brakes. I don't know how it would do if an AC compressor kicked on a idle though--if that would lug the motor down too much...
I was also running a stick shift, but with a mild stall, I think that cam will do fine with an auto
The cam you and Billy suggest would be a good one IMO.
RPM intake 4300# 3.73 gear AC/cruiser 2600 stall/ willing to change though. Vacuum carb.

No power brakes. Rough idle is not a concern. I'd prefer a hydraulic, but am open to a mechanical, as long as I don't need the added expense of changing out a lot of parts I already have to support it. Rather not change springs and rockers if I can help it.

Also am running an MSD pro billet, blaster coil, and digital 6aL box. And am limited to 2.5 exhaust do to under car clearance issues, not being a unibody car.
