This statement is confusing. Is it the intake or exhaust manifold you are talking about? Either way, I cannot visualize on how either intake or exhaust manifolds would interfer with the "linkage". Possibly some miss match of brackets, bellcrank and linkage could cause an interference with the exhaust manifold/head pipe flange or something. A little more info and maybe someone else will be able to answer your question.

I was answering what you said about intakes.
But you did not. You stated how the linkage might contact the firewall.

Too many grumpies on here that need another coffee. Anyway. Your question is a bit confusing. WHat is hitting what? On my Challenger I had a higher carb than stock by a couple inches with a 3 piece kickdown linkage and HP exhaust maniflods and I don't ever recall a problem with clearances. I take it you have a 1 piece rod from the carb to the trans by the problems you have but just try to be a bit more specific as to what is hitting and exactly where. Thanks, and good luck. Don.

"I cannot visualize on how either intake or exhaust manifolds would interfer with the "linkage"." Visualize the higher mounting point on the higher intake raising the linkage pivot so that the part of the linkage going to the trans now hits the firewall. That is an example of what indirect interference the intake could cause. That's what happens with some the intake swaps. I hope that makes my answer eaiser for you to understand.
Stumpy, my goal is to help this guy get an answer to his question. I really do understand the indirect or caused-by effect of a tall intake. However, I dont believe that this is the original poster's issue, at least not according to his post. His post says that the linkage actually hits the manifold, and his post is also unclear which manifold. I suspect it is the exhaust. But I do not know that either.
I appologize for getting this post off course.

I'm having a hard time seeing the part of the linkage going TO the trans hitting the firewall , it's a linkage ROD that it goes STRAIGHT DOWN ????
What I see is the rod that goes to the CARB not being LONG ENOUGH and the THROTTLE VALVE LINKAGE not operating PROPERLY .
Also stumpy , if you READ the original post the guy says HIGH RISE EXHAUST MANIFOLD , there is NO WAY the TV linage will HIT the EXHAUST manifold unless it's mounted on the outer rail of the VALVE COVER ... The OP is the onethat is confusing the issue along with someone ASSuMEing he meant INTAKE manifold .

Don.
I have a stock intake manifold. The rod that goes straight down is hitting the exhast manifold flange where the exhaust pipe connects, It is not hitting the firewall.
Do you have the CORRECT exh manifold on the car ???

I have the high rise exhaust manifolds that were manufactured in '68.

What is the part number on the manifold ?
You either have the wrong manifold or the linkage on incorrectly , if they are the right manifolds the linkage rod will not hit it .

This is starting to sound like there is a problem with the shift linkage and not the kickdown linkage. He said passing gear linkage originally so I'm assuming Throttle Valve linkage but I find it hard to believe that stuff could get in the way. Maybe there's a problem in the bellcrank area of his shift linkage. Does that sound right ,Joe?
