went to a different track yesterday(midmichigandragway) and made some improvements on my 60's. only difference to car was a new ICE ignition box & coil. best 60 to date was a 1.51 with the cal-tracs. first 2 back to back passes 1.499,1.468. bars in lower hole. john calvert says aslong as your not spinning going to the upper hole will not improve 60'. I put the bars in the upper hole and 1.456,1.473,1.468. shocks on 7. shock on 9 1.488. so what do ya think? upper hole or lower hole? best of the day was 10.47@128.9

Make some shock changes on the lower hole then draw a conclusion.

I dont run Caltracs so I cant tell you whats best but I want to say thats a nice improvement in your 60. My best is a 1.50 on SS springs and 9" tires. Ron

Nice Dave! I also made improvements on mine as well this weekend, but mine is due to a fresh transmission, 1.47 60', 6.81 1/8.

My Caltracs are still on the lower hole, 1 flat driver side, 2 flats passenger side, shocks on 6.

67 Barracuda street car, 408, e85, 1.38 60', 6.44 @105.9 in the 1/8 mile, 10.19 @130.5 in the 1/4...so far....

I would log 10 passes in the upper and lower hole at the best shock settings & go with the best average.

the short times improved, but the 1/4 mph and et seem off alittle. best has been 10.39@131 and yesterday was 10.47@128. heres one from yesterday 2nd pass with bars in lower hole.

Your mph was down 3mph. Air was probably the hp difference. Et would have been worse if your 60 had not picked up.

yes, from my best time. 129 is very normal. I have a new 4.30 gear to replace my 4.10, but not sure it would improve anything after yesterday. was planning on getting it installed and to the track 1 more time.

I'd take that as a generality and tune for what works best for your car. I've never tried the upper hole position on my Challenger, but it's nose-heavy compared to your car and IMO the lower position helps w/ the weight distribution.

I just put Caltrac's on this year I've been to the track twice. My car is launching about like yours. The car starts to pick up the front end then it drops. My best 60' was a 1.46. Best ever was a 1.50 with SS springs. I didn't realize but yesterday going over the car I noticed my shocks were set on 6. I thought they were on 9. I don't know whether to loosen or increase the shock setting. But we both need to get the front up and hold it until we get off the line a few feet. I pitted next to my buddy in his mustang at the last race. He was getting consistent 1.39 60ft times with the front end 3 ft in the air running 10.60 et's.
I think it is all about getting the front end over the center of gravity just like pulling a wheely on a bike. When you do this all the cars weight is on the rear wheels and you will get the best traction.
I was told by someone with extensive testing to leave a .070 air gap on each side of the Caltracs. This has worked good for me but I think the fine tunning is in the shock settings and front end travel. Each time I lowered the front end the front tires pulled higher off the line and the 60ft went down. The only problem now is that I can only lower the front about and inch more. I may have to lower the rear but I really don't want to go that route.
Good luck

Guys I fought this 60' battle with my roadrunner last year. Car was 60' 1.44-1.48 wih caltracs and rancho 9way shocks. Car would begin to lift just as some are describing then give a wiggle and set the tires down 10-15' off the line. Was causing et variation on the top end from 10.38-10.45. Changed rear shocks to qa1 double adjustable. First weekend out car was a different animal on the line. 1.37-1.38 60' time et 10.30-10.32. The best improvement was consistency though. 60' stayed glued in thr 1.37-1.38 range thus et was much more consistent. Once you get to a certain power level the rancho/Calvert 9way shocks just aren't up to the task.

This is what worked forme.

At some point you may have the car hooked up but limited by gears and converter. I am considering going to 4.56 gears over the winter. I have 4.10's now. My friend in the mustang is running 4.56 with a 29 inch tire.
Your rear tires look tall. What height are they?

MY shocks have no compression damping. They only have resistance pulling them apart. That seems really strange. Maybe its possible the tire is rebounding off the track after the initial hit?

Can you post a link or part number for the shocks your talking about? What do they cost?

They are expensive but one of the best investments I've made.

I am running 4.56 gear with 30x9 tire.

Are you pulling the front tires higher or holding them up longer?
Do you have any video of your car leaving the line?

I do not have video of the car launching. However it did pull the tires about 18" and carried around 30'. For my car that is impressive given close to 4000lbs with me if the seat. Before was pulling them maybe a foot and carrying not much more than 15'.
