Just bought a 2wd pop top ram charger with no motor but rock solid and straight. Got a great deal on it and couldn't pass on it. I had a 2wd ramcharger a while back and I didn't realize it at that time how hard they were to find. I've kind of been looking since but haven't really seen any thing that was decent until this one. I'm up in the air on how I want to do this one up, I'm either going to go with the pick m up decals or 77/78 macho powerwagon decals where it's a 78. My last one was a 79 so I went with the 79/80 macho powerwagon scheme on it. I definitely going to be painting it black either way. A black ramcharger with the 77 macho paint would look pretty neat in a 2wd version. I also just picked up a low mileage 2003 5.9 magnum style motor for it today from a local junkyard. I've always wanted to build one of these motors up with a better cam, air gap intake, nice carb, headers. Later on I wouldn't mind adding a four speed in to it. I'm going to install the black plaid and white interior out of my macho trailduster with the fold up rear seat that wasn't offered till 1980. The wagon wheels will also be installed with the yellow pin striping if I do it up like a macho. Should be a fun ride cant wait to get started on it.

Most of you guys have seen my previous 2wd poptop ramcharger I had but this is what I plan on doing to this one but with the 77/78 style macho powerwagon decals.

It'll have a black on black color scheme kind of like my old ramcharger. The tailgate looks killer being black on black because you can barely make out the power wagon letters on the back of it. It should be a really neat color combo if I do it up this way. The hood and below the side stripe will be satin black like a macho powerwagon.

Well I guess I already have an 833 OD out back in our parts. What would I need for a hump for the shifter, I'll also need pedals, z bar, linkage. I might as well do it all right now while I strip the ram charger down.

nice lookin AZ ramcharger....IIRC it was 1500 bucks.
honestly I would make it look like an 80, but leave the 4wd graphic off of the gate.
I would also make it look like the 80 T/D macho that you have....in fact, there is your pattern..color as well, Bright Yellow looks good!!or is it impact yellow?....

That's funny you said that as I thought about going that route with it as well. It is a neat color combo, and the stripe kit is very easy to do. It's the same color as your 80, so what ever color that is?

iirc the 2x RCs have the 4X floors..
You need the part that 76DB has the OD833 out of a truck or van. My spare is out of a 90. The shifter is a normal Hurst shifter with a truck style mounting plate. Most of the hyd bells are double patterned for the NP435/OD833...

Great score there, I've been mildly looking for a 77 or 78 se 2wd Ramcharger or Trailduster for a little while now. They are sort of hard to find so I'm jealous. Congrats on the find there

I was considering an 80s model 2X here in Wa on Craigs Flakes. . . The ad said no engine. Come to find out that it did have an engine in it. Then Polarapete bought it and the engine let go half way home to his house. His darling wife rescued him by bringing the trailer to get him.. ..

I did buy that '86 Larry and the 360 engine was a runner. The problem was that the PO changed the fuel pump and forgot to put a clamp on the inlet side hose!! The engine would run for a few minutes, start sucking air and quit. I trailered it home and started and drove it off the trailer. I have everything to make it run except the driveshaft, a Built 440, Pat Blais race 727, two different converters to try, a narrowed Dana 60 with 4.10s , nice wheels & tires, etc. etc. I cut the floor out of the back to mount the aluminum fuel cell today. Once I get the back done, I will turn the truck around and back it into the garage so that I can put in the new van pocketed control arms and fill the huge holes in the fire wall. Just some assembly required LOL

For myself, I never really understood the idea of a 2wd RC/TD. Ok, maybe cool with the top down and the HP up but in my mind the thing was always intended as a 4wd. Your mileage may vary.

At any rate and FWIW: the donor slots look like factory 15x8 and the LRE guys will scoop them up for a decent price. Much tougher to find than passable macho clone wagons.

If you end up changing the mirrors, maybe hit me up about the old ones.

I've have had convertible cudas and there just way to small and cramped for me being 6'2 and my two kids really don't fit in the back seat with there child seats. Driving a ramcharger is so much more comfortable as and we all fit much nicer. I've had both 2wd and 4wd pop top ramchargers and I have to say the 2wd is way more fun to drive around. 4 wheel drive is not really an important part for me as do not drive them in the winter or off road as I want to keep them in nice original shape with no dents or rust. Most of the time I try and find ones out west that rust free and original paint. I do have a rough pop top ramcharger 4x4 and I use that as my plow turck. The mirrors will stay on as there my favorite, really cant stand the larger ones or cheesy after markets one. If one of my ramchargers comes factory with the larger ones I keep them on but I prefer the small ones like on my 2wd truck.

80 macho ramchargers also came with chrome slots. Still undecided about what factory paint scheme I'm going to go with. I really want to do the pick m up paint scheme just like this one in black but 2wd version. I'll add the 79-80 style hood, grill and radiator support to mine.

I might sell this pop top 2wd ramcharger and keep my macho, if interested check the for sale section. Selling it for just what I have into it. Going to keep one or the other.
