I am currently running an Edy RPM intake on my 340 and have been for the last 8 years. Over those years, I have made some combo changes and I am now curious if the RPM is still the best intake that I could be using. Is this dual plane still the best choice or would my combo help out with a single plane intake? If so, which model.
Some of my specs are listed below.

Thanks

I'm not sure & as you know the RPM has a heck of a good rep. I would see how much vac you have on either/both planes at WOT which is a good indication if the carb venturi's are too small & are restricting the flow if you have over 1 in hg. This would apply to WOT IF you spend a significant amount of time there (WOT)

Do you spend the majority of your time on the street on the track ? If on the track then look at a single plane.

If on the street is the majority of your time spent cruising or foot thru the firewall ?

My WOT vacuum reading shows 0 on a mech guage.

This is a street car but WOT is a big part of how I drive it.

Thanks

The Edelbrock Performer RPM Air Gap is the best street manifold there is.
Stock heads are your limiting factor, and cast iron exhaust manifolds.

At WOT a single plane will work significantly better than a dual plane. So it just depends how important WOT performance is to you compared to part throttle performance.

I ran a dyno test recently where the dual plane intake lost 100 hp when compared to a race prepped single plane. The bigger issue is that the AF ratios are often all over the map when running a dual plane at WOT.

At part throttle the dual plane is much better than a single plane so there is a compromise that has to be made.

Thanks, it confirms what I have found over the years.

My first 340 at 16 years old had a weiand single plane manifold on it which came in my 72 challenger. I used it for 20+ years, the manifold on a few different 340s.

Thinking I needed a new more modern manifold I bought a performer. It was terrible compared to my old single plane weiand which I sold.

Sold the performer and bought a performer rpm and it was a little better but no where near my old weiand at WOT.
Still have the rpm manifold but got a 340victorjr and now it is closer to what the old weiand was. It does have edlebrock heads on it now and it runs well on the street at idle. I've been using it since 2007. I did all my testing with iron 340 heads.

I have idled it over a hour in Vegas this past July in 105 temps with the AC cranking. It handles it fine. My wife drives the car also.

I got to the feel the WOT, give me a single plane.

The icing on the cake for me is, there are no heat risers provisions on the victor manifold or heads. Perfect for todays pump gas and my 1405 edlebrock carb.

I don't think you'll see significant gains from a single plane up top, and you'll likely lose a bit down low. I would stick with what you've got.

I would be very surprised if there was any performance gain anywhere in the rpm range going from an RPM to a single plane with a motor and cam that small.

Thank you everyone!
Andy,
My WOT readings are all over the place and I have two seperate exhausts side to side with each side having an A/F sensor. At idle, they are both within .4, off idle up past 70mph, they are both within .2. But at WOT and no matter what my jetting may be even staggered side to side and swapped stagger to opposite side, my WOT is about .6 on average side to side.
This was the main reason that I asked this question.

Would there be any gains by swapping the RPM intake for the RPM Airgap?
I just looked up the Torker II and it is a single plane with a power range of 2500-6400rpms. How would this compare to my RPM?

Thanks again to all.

I would stick with what you have and block the heat crossover if you haven't already. http://www.moparmusclemagazine.com/techa...es/viewall.html

Have you guys ever tried a single plane manifold?

My cam is smaller...And I here to say a single plane runs way better up top than a dual plane.

I guess you didn't read or believe what AndyF found on a dyno?

I trust Andy, but I gotta say thats a pretty 1 sided comment he made. A 100 hp gain???... this whole combo prob. only makes 325?, so Im not so sure that really applies here. Andy also compared "a dual plane" to a "race prepped single plane"??? Come on, Andy. There are numerous dyno tests that show the RPM is about as good as it gets below 6k.

I'm sure Andy knows what he's talking about, but what he offered here has to be expanded upon in order to make sense.

I have no details on what Andy is talking about.

Yes, I have run single plane manifolds, and I have my own dyno data as well.

Had a single plane Holley Street Dominator on this 400 in my sons Dart. Ran a best of 11.59 @ 117. Put the dual plane RPM intake on it and ran 11.55 @ 116. Later in good air it went 11.45 @ 117. The single plane had a better mph but not enough on his combo to over come how much stronger the dual plane is down low. The car was quicker in the 1/8 , 1/4 and the 60 ft with the dual plane. His Dart weighs 3550 with him in it. I am using the Indy dual plane on my 63 and I like it. I have not tried a single plane on my 63 yet. Heavy cars will do much better down low with the dual plane. I am still thinking out loud here about the single plane intake idea.
What about the Weiand Excellerator #7545? It specs out as a low-rise single plane with a 1500-6800 rpm range?
I have a 3800rpm converter with 3.91's and 26" tires. What do you think about this intake for a streeter? I did not see them sold new, so this one might have to be found used.

Thanks again.

I think the bigger problem will be getting the manifold pictured to fit on a chrysler.
Stick with what you've got.

We used two vintage Edelbrock manifolds on my son's 383 (similar cam to the OPs in his 340). The two intakes were a DP4B and a TM-6. The single plane made great power well above the RPM that the engine probably should have been operated at, BUT we switched to the DP4B for better low-end torque while autocrossing. I could see the difference from outside the car...It just pulled harder out of the turns.
