i recently had my 68 340 project block, align honed in preparation for
building with my SCAT 372 rotating assy. I am not sure how much I should shim the windage tray below the oilpan rails to provide adequate clearance for the 3.58" stroke...and still do its job of inhibiting windage around the crank and rods, and help the oil drain back to the Milodon stock replacement oil pan. Just a street-strip 66 Dart 2 door post, 904 with low the gearset, and a 81/4", with a 3:55 suregrip. Should be a fun car to drive, and hopefully durable. Anyone know the right clearance for the tray ?? Thanks in advance, JJ.

Myself, I put the windage tray on after the short block is assembled. I'll rotate the crank and pretty much as long as I have daylight between the pan and anything rotating i am good, but I try to shoot for at least a paper clip's width. You may have to also squeeze the tray in to get the pan to fit on.

Be careful here.I put my 4 inch stroke pan back on with good clearance. The crank must have rubbed the tray causing it to flex and fail,Motor had to come back out.Be careful,Kevin.

I'll bet that the oil pan squished the windage tray in closing up your clearance. With a stock stroke crank it's tight using the later model windage tray (oval slotted mounting holes).
