After installing the dash . . . with the original heater cables . . . it would appear there is no adjustment that allows full movement of the lower temp control lever. I have full adjustment to the right (High) but when sliding to the left (Low) it only travels about 3/4 of the way (OK, maybe 2/3'rds). No binding and looking at the cable during movement its as if the steel wire is 1/2" to short relative to the plastic sheathing.

1970 Cuda, March build, no A/C with original components.

Is this normal? Does anyone else have this issue?

Try adjusting the end near the heater box. Where you put the cheap metal clip on the cable will make a difference. Look at the cable and see if there any marks on that end, where the clip was originally attached. It usually leaves a mark in the outer sleeve.

I almost certainly put it back the way it came apart, but will check to be sure.

I'll also double check that I have full movement of the door, but it appears to me it's a function of the cable length relative to the shield.

If the attach clip to the control panel were slotted like the heater/defroster cable, I could at least adjust it to be somewhat centered within the face plate adjustment range.

Still curious if others have better range on their temp control or similar to mine, particularly in March or earlier of 1970.

Thanks for your time and idea

Sure looks like something has changed in your heater box or controls. I just rebuilt my heater box and lost about 1/8 of the travel on the same control (at most) but I was able to adjust this out by removing the clips mentioned and moving the cable L/R until I got what I wanted.

If you lost that much travel something is different with the cable setup (different length?) or maybe the door is binding in the heater box (i.e. something is jammed inside the box). If you remove the cable from the top of the heater box do you get full travel of the door manually?

OK, control panel only goes together one way (eliminated)
Cable is the factory original (eliminated)
Connection, Cable to control, no adjustment (eliminated)
Cable connection to heater box (suspect, need to verify as original)
Door movement, smooth (suspect, travel needs to be checked)

I'll get a bore scope out and verify the door is operational over full range, new foam may be holding it back a bit. I'll also verify that I placed the cable connection is exactly how it came apart (thank God for digital pictures). Then theres always the possibility that it came from the factory that way.

Unfortunately this thing called work continues to get in the way of my fun time. It'll have to wait till next Saturday, but I'll be sure to post back what I find, maybe it'll help someone else down the road.

As always, thanks for your time.

Thought I'd provide the findings in the event anyone may benifit.

Turns out the protective cover managed to pull out of the retainer clip. It appears the issue may be that original case is hard and the little detents in the clip are struggling to embed themselves into the case.

I have it redone and seems to be holding at the moment (with full travel of the heater control)

In the event this happens again, is there anyone that makes reproduction retainer clips?
And is there an easy way to get these off (STRUGGLED to get that thing off)

Is your heater box out? If so, my clips came off very easily by inserting a flat-head screwdriver into the clip and prying off. Harder to get back on than off to be honest. If your heater box is installed I imagine it was a pain as they are a [Edited by Moparts - Family Friendly Site - Keep it clean] to get to. When I put mine back together I adjusted everything before sliding the box back into place and bolting to the firewall. Only way I could reach everything.

One more question, what switch is that above your heater controls? Is that the road lamp switch? Mine is mounted below the dash (below heater controls).

Glad to hear you got everything worked out though.

Yes Sir, heater box was out and the clips were easier to get off, but still a pain. I preset them to the identical spots to when they were removed, unfortunately it managed to slip when I reinstalled the dashboard, hooked up and operated the control. With so little room to work up there (top of box, behind dash) If it slips again, I plan to use a new clip (assuming I can find one) and clip the old one off.

And yes, Road Lamps switch above

Generally, the rallye dash had the switch below the heater controls in the frame...Standard dash had it mounted to the plastic surround below the headlight switch...But there are exceptions...
