Saginaw for the regular setup - not the Federal setup as used on T/A & AAR.

I set another Moparts member up with what I thought was a full set of brackets and the pump, but it's been 10+ years since I built a small block and something may be missing.

Pics of the right setup would be appreciated and I can probably match up what's required from my stash

Thanks in advance

1970 340 uses a Federal pump just like the AAR-T/A's
Axle package cars had a cooler.

Perhaps the pump had been swapped on this car then - I pulled it from a relatively original '70 'Cuda 340 automatic car.

So to rephrase the question - what do the correct brackets look like for the Saginaw pump as used on a '71 340?

Thanks in advance

1971 uses the federal pump as well. 70's has a 3 spoke pulley and 71's have a solid pulley.

Here are pic's of a small block Saginaw pump and brackets

I've owned 2 '71 340 cars, both untouched, both came with the Saginaw pumps.

One 802 SPD, the other C09 SPD.

Thank you for the pics

back

There is a 3rd bracket that is bolted to the block with two bolts and the power steering pump belt tension adjustment pivots off point of the point of that 3rd bracket shown below. The bracket that bolts to the back on the power steering pump is not shown in the picture below.

Caution, I had a bracket setup that looked almost the same but the dimensions were off. I think it was a /6 or big block PS bracket. Couldn't tell in a picture.

Gonna have to dis-agree with this one.

I've seen to many small block cars with saginaw pumps to have been ' replacements '

Including my former 1970 Challenger 340 , everything on that car was dated correct for the car

I'll post some pics of an original unmolested setup I have a bit later.

That's the same set-up my 71 340 w3.91's SPD 925 has.

Here's another one from an A-body, 1971 340 Demon, gear package car (has cooler) Oct 1970 SPD.

Curiously, this one is off of a 71 340 Challenger with an early Oct SPD as well. It looked VERY original, I cleaned it up for this pic.

*As a side note, all of these examples had correctly dated PS hoses, and the one with the cooler had a correctly dated cooler as well. This adds to the likelyhood that they haven't likely been changed, etc. but nothing is 100% certain without all of the history.

Same pump before I steam cleaned it to get some of the major gunk off of it.

The Challenger was an A/C car, maybe this or the fact that it's an E-body were a contributing factor in the pump type?

Those brackets were on a 70 up small block with aluminum water pump?

Looks like the same brackets on a cast iron setup.

Yes, aluminum water pumps, all of them.

Here is another setup I have, I bought it as you see it with no known history as to what it came off of. It obviously has a cooler and all the dates point toward it likely being from a 1973 model year car. It has the solid pulley.
