Hi!

I need to insulate a car's flor against road noise, exhaust noise and also insulate it so that the heat radiatiion from the headers and 3" exhaust isnt unbeareable inside the car.

I know Dynamat does the trick, but it is expensive.

Looking for a cheaper alternative that will work just as good. What product would you guys reccomend?

Looking for the best bank for the buck.....I see Summit has some alternatives, wonder how good they are.

I bought FatMat from Amazon. Pretty cheap compared to Dynamat or Hushmat. It was the same .080 thickness and unlike some of the cheaper stuff, had no asphalt smell.
Some guys use some roofing type stuff from home improvement stores. I didnt want to go that route. The smell would make summer driving less than pleasureable.

I looked into this a bunch and found pretty good reviews on RAAMaudio. I got the RAAMat and Ensolite combo and they seem like good products and laid down nicely. Haven't run the car yet so can't comment on the performance.

I use Fat Mat or Hush Mat and get the 100sq/ft deal. Used to be $100, now it's around $130

I se b-quiet happy with their product. they make a bunch of different sound deadeners not just the butyl backed stuff.

Check out Peel and Seal from Lowe's home improvement store, I used it on my convertable and worked excellent, looks same as dynamat but in a roll, the rolls are only 6-8" wide but I don't think it really matters. its made for moble or rc trailer roofing repair, but if you go to Lowe's website and read the reviews I think everyone says how good it works for automotive sound and vibration deadining. Not shure if its better than dynamat but it made a heck of a differance on my ride plus its a third of the price.

I did that, then had Jegs price match the Amazon price. The Amazon price was much lower than Jegs but they matched it. I bought it from Jegs because they had it in stock and ship very quickly.

My order of 100 sq ft was more than enough. I did the floor from the pinch weld on the firewall to the axle hump. I put sections on the insides of the doors against the outer door skins. Some went in the quarter panels between the doors and wheel tubs. I did NOT pull the headliner to put it there. I had enough left over to do 60% of my Brother in laws Duster floor.

I'm curious what the Lowes stuff looks like. Sounds like a good deal, $20/25 sqft compared to $30 or more for the "automotive" stuff.

looks the same as dynamat (sticky rubber with aluminum foil on one side). I dont know what the difference is but for the money I experienced a big difference in noise control after installing it on my floors.

I read here and elsewhere that the home improvement store stuff smells like roofing tar. If it doesn't, I may consider this in future builds.

Yes, I believe the cheap home depot stuff is asphalt based where as the more expensive stuff is butyl based.

I went to Lowe's, the Peel n Seal is $98 for 100 sqft.
That's a pretty good deal.
Wish I knew if it smells like tar, that would be bad.

I couldn't smell anything after install, if you put the roll up to your face you can smell it a bit but it is not overwhelming.

Just search "sound deadener" on e bay, there are hundreds of sellers, the Butyl rubber is more efficient and less smelly- but costs more.
