I have used one on an original hood and a Sherman hood and they fit like a glove. Cant speak for AMD as they have their own aluminum version.
Like the ad says, Mike from B,E and A also carries the one shown
Cant go wrong considering they have the gasket.
They are dead-on right down to the cast in part number, pentastar and vendor code just like factory plus made of same material.

I got mine from Mike @ BE&A with the gasket and it's spot on!

Thanks guys.

I have put a real ring on an AMD hood and it fit great. I don't care for the AMD ring.

Terry, do you like the Sherman hood or the AMD hood best?

I should have studied them better but I was just helping someone put the package together and he chose the Sherman hood because AMD was on back order at the time.
I know the AMD hood comes with or without hood pin provisions and the Sherman hood he got did not have the hood pin provisions which was a pain to ad but I believe he told me that was the only one they offered.

The Trim ring of BEA's is the best by a mile. Second place goes to the ones I used to sell (now sold through www.restorick.com) distant 3rd goes to Gene Gregory's.

The hoods themselves, I don't think either nailed it, the under bracing piece (both vendors) lacks the correct stamping details of an original, study an original and compare the two large oval pockets in the two front corners and you'll see the most obvious differences. Both vendors talk about using an original as a pattern, If it's true they sure didn't pay attention to the details. If you want an under brace piece that's closer than anything else out there (so close it's nearly perfect) you'll need the one www.Restorick.com sells, but they don't sell complete hoods.

That is BEA's ring in the auction right?

A friend has a real hood that he will sell me but it has some modifications and body damage. The damage would be expensive to fix.

This car is not an original shaker hood car so having a real hood is not important. The repo's are ready to paint.

I'll throw my in the hoods. You can get one of Gene Gregory's right now for less than either of the other two and be further ahead!

Gene's need some tweaking, especially trying to shorten all the studs which are too long.

Agree 100%, that's why I got the BE&A. I was talking about the AMD and Sherman hoods! C'mon Terry!

Just re-read my post and for some reason I threw the word ring in there, sorry Terry. You did have your coffee this morning............

Right, Genes hoods are nice looking parts but when put side by side with an original there are many differences in the details. The trim rings are cast aluminum and not very accurate (they don't fit into an original hood) and are sanded and bondoed into the hood opening until they fit and blend with the surrounding hood surfaces, especially in the peak at the front of the trim ring. This is why the undersides are delivered in bare metal but the top of the hood is delivered in primer.....it hides the bodywork under the primer. So, as I said, nice parts, but more artistically detailed than correct in the details.

Agreed, but still a better option and lest costly than AMD or Sherman!

How cheap are Gene's these days, cant be $700.00 complete ?
You can buy a Shermans' hood without the ring for $550.00, add another $175.00 for the ring....$725.00 complete for the one we got for my friend.

I think the cheapest I've seen Gene selling his hoods at the shows was $900....besides Gene's business is currently for sale, I was told he's packing up for retirement to Florida,...I don't know if his Daughter will continue running the "show", haven't heard word on that....

And on another note, if one was to purchase several hoods or more from AMD, good volume discounts do apply, i purchased several of the E body Shaker hoods recently and the break down price wise came out to about $550 and change each for a complete hood, I'm including the truck freight (I did a terminal customer/pick up) in the price also

Mike

I picked up one of Gene's hoods last year for $700.00 W/O the trim ring as I had the one from Mike......

Mikes trim rings fit an original hood, an AMD hood, and as far as I know, a Goodmark hood. But they wont fit Genes hoods (not the one I had anyway). Have you tried yours? Other than the stud holes watch the front peak. Mikes rings have the right shape.
