'68 GTX. New lines, including rubber. Using '74 Challenger floating caliper setup. New NAPA P2178 master (disc/drum, manual). When I bleed the calipers, they lock up tight. I used the original distribution block. Is there a residual valve in this block? Had calipers off twice, seem to move easily. I swtiched masters (had a M2066 on originally, same issue). ONly thing I haven't changed is the block. My thinking is that this should only cause premature early drum braking in the rear. What am I missing?

Does you MC pushrod have free play when the pedal is released ??? usually about .030 is recommended.

once the free play verified, try cracking the line at the master to brakes, if they release it would indicate a bad MC

Rod has plenty of free play and piston comes all the way to the back.

The 68/9 B bodies whether 4 wheel drum or disc/drum had the same distribution block, only the disc cars got an additional residual valve in the rear line,...I'll assume your car is/was 4 wheel drum?

74 Challengers did not have "floating" calipers, they used the 2 pin fixed caliper,....but regardless of the style used, I'm thinking that because your doing a disc swap on a 68/9 B body your hanging the calipers in the rear position on the front wheels?,...if so where are your bleed screws located?,...they should be up top, if they're located lower than the highest point of the caliper in it's mounted position,...then this leads to improper bleeding problems,...you need to provide more info on the swap an/or pics, to avoid chasing ghosts

Also, ensure that the m/c does not have residual pressure valves in the port . . . perhaps that is causing the issue ???
