Just received my valley pan gasket from Jeggs today and it is missing the black RTV silicone that usually comes with this kit. Can I just use some RTV ultrablack on the ports as well as the end rails? Thanks, Dave

On the ends yes. Not advisable on the ports however. RTV and gasoline are not compatible with each other. Over time the rtv in contact with gas is very likely to fail. Install dry (at the port areas)

What is the stuff that usually comes with this kit? I thought it may be silicone? I can't put the steel cover on without some kind of sealant.

I have some oil seepage in my 440/493 that may be valley pan related. I'm heading out now to replace it. I installed mine without the paper gaskets. I just put gaskacinch around the intake ports on the intake side. I've been fighting detonation and I suspect oil may be getting into the cylinders through there.

If anyone can prove that to me that it wouldn't leak I wouldn't hesitate one bit to put it on dry. I hate the mess!

First BB I tore apart was 1964.No sealer at all.Ive reused pans and have 2 running now dry.Only place for silicone is in the 4 corners at the head.I also use a tiny strip where the hold downs cinch it down to the block.Been doing it for 40 years and no problems.Ive never used gaskets either.Every BB I tore apart was dry and no gaskets just tins.Oh yeah now both are running aluminum intakes and 1 aluminum heads.Rocky

I bought the fel-pro 1214 valley pan with crossovers blocked off and has the gaskets. After doing some searching it appears that they don't put the sealant in this kit because they say you don't need it. But the other kit that doesn't have the crossover blocked and doesn't have the gaskets comes with the sealant. I read where someone said the 1214 kit pan is thinner to accept the gaskets where the other kit without gaskets are slightly thicker. Any truth to this?

Go buy a tube of Hylomar and a small tube of silicone marked adhesive silicone , not gasket maker silicone Use the Hylomar on the heads, valley pan (both isdes) and the intake manifold around the intake ports VERY SPARINGLY, really thin, used the silicone in the corners (a small dab in each corner) between the block, heads and valley pan I like and use the gaskets if I can, I seal them up with Gasket Cinch first and then use Gasket Cinch to hold them on the valley pan, if I'm not using Hylomar on them
