Sold one last year over the border...Not easy. He will have to go thru an agent if I remember right and it has to be cleared for the value he is stating on his documents. They will pull up e-bay or racingjunk and check your ads, so pull them as soon as possible. The less info out there the better...The guy that bought mine brought cash and picked it up himself and had paperwork already filed ahead of time. If its not registerable, I am not sure...

No agent is required but as far as no title I am not sure if a bill of sale will work. Call customs at the border and they can tell you all that is needed. I brought three cars up from the States and it was easy with no hassle. They will ask the buyer where he/she purchased the car/s and if on a public domain they do ask for your account # and check the info as to make sure you are not trying to cheat on the taxes and if you are caught lying say good buy to the car and to the chance of bringing up another car for a long time and you get put on there black list and you could be arrested and charged.

If an American buys something in Canada its easier for them to bring it home than it is for the Canadian to try and bring it across (I think they must feed your border guards rotten meat or something). Likewise it will be easier for the Canadian to bring the car home than it would be for you. Leave it to the buyer or you just might find yourself with a gloved hand up your a$$.

It will be difficult if not impossible to export it out of the states without a title at least as a regular car. A car needs an export permit from the US before it can enter Canada and that needs a title. US Customs could tell you if there is a procedure for a race car with no title. The only other option is to export it as parts and it has to be disassembled pretty thoroughly to qualify as parts.

I would call someone like Tim McAmis or Skinny Kid Racing and ask them how they handle it.

They have to have shipped at least a few up there.

I don't know of any ProMod that would even come close to having a Title or Registration.

For any car that can have a title I would not buy it without one because legally it is still owned by the last person on the title. If the car has a VIN you can go to a title company and have a new title produced that will solve a lot of problems. If it is a purpose built race car then the chassis will have a serial number which then you need to get an email from either IHRA or NHRA stating its a competition vehicle.

I have imported about 25 vehicles and had no issues.

It's a pain in the ars with a title. No title, good luck . Suggest you talk him in to coming over here and picking it up. Went through this a few years back with a car that had a title. Talked the guy in to coming over to the US to pick it up. Heard he was stuck at the boarder for 3 days.

I've brought cars from the US before. If your going to register it for the road you'll need a Tittle if its "race only" then a Bill of Sale stating Race car and type should suffice, this will mean you will never be able to register it. In my opinion it's a bit easier to bring in A Race car because it won't have to meet any standards. It's a painful process either way cos your dealing with 2 government departments from each country and they can be anal with there terminology

As I said if the VIN has been removed then if it has a current chassis cert the you can get the tech director to give you a letter stating its a competition only vehicle. If it does not have a current chassis cert. run away from it.

The US government has nothing to do with this. They couldn't care less about a race car leaving the country. If it's a registered vehicle then yes, they have to be notified 3 days in advance at the point of entry.
There are too many opinions about this from non-Canadians who don't have a clue what they're talking about. Let the buyer do the legwork and the whole process will flow quite smoothly as long as he contacts the right people and clearly states what he's doing. He has to start by contacting the "registrar of imported vehicles" in Canada. Google it, they have a website but he will still have to contact them as it doesn't mention race cars but guys have been bringing them in for years!
