How much does a h pipe really smooth out the exhaust on a car? Im looking at getting a new 3" dual exhaust for my cuda with a 528 hemi and I cant find a kit that doesn't have the h pipe. I know that the power gain would be minimal from the h pipe so I would rather not run one and ruin the sound of the motor because from what I've read many people say that it smoothes out the cam in the motor?

I have a 3" tti h pipe system on my Challenger behind a 528 hemi. I have no complaints on the sound. It sounds like and runs like a beast.

Its better to run the H-pipe then not to. It balances the exh and makes it sound better to me. Ron

I have a you tube video of my 472 with tti 3 inch with the x pipe. I used the vt dynomax mufflers. Search bill foos and it should appear. My motor has a street roller can from Tim Banning. It is not a nasty sounding can but makes power

Most factory stock Mopar HP cars had H-pipes.

It actually does improve power.

Maybe you need to rethink your system and use the "fart can" approach. I have a couple of empty tin coffee cans I could send...................

'X-pipe and H-pipes synchronize the balance of the exhaust pulses from each bank of cylinders based on firing order which increases velocity and scavenging from each cylinder. Most people agree that X-pipes are better at improving performance than H-pipes, especially at the top end. However, H-pipes tend to have a deeper sound than x-pipe equipped vehicles and generally build power down low. These are general claims and your engine and exhaust combination could have different results.'

I got a balance tube behind some Hooker's, and in front of some Flowmaster's...

I like it at the tailpipe...

Personally I like the "X", but what ever you choose to do try to build it so you can disassemble it easily without having to cut anything. Sometimes a transmission has to come out and you don't want to have to cut and reweld an expensive exhaust system or even a cheap one for that matter. I have flanges welded to my mufflers and the ends of the head pipes. That way I can unbolt the head pipes from the headers and the mufflers and drop out the middle of the system allowing easy access to the tranny.
