I am in the process of building my 83 w350 plow/hauler and the drum brake backing plates on my dana 60 rear are in rough shape. Is there any source for new backing plates or do I have to find a set in the junkyard? I have been searching and all I have come up with is disc brake setups that are over $500. I would be interested in the disc swap if any one knows a cheaper alternative.
Thanks, Brian

Just buy the disc brake brackets for about $50 then go to the parts store and get the front rotors for an 84 K20 and a pair of 84 chevy calipers.

You can do the disc brake swap for as much, or slightly less than redoing a drum brake setup (if you are replacing drums)

Rockauto has the rotors and loaded calipers for about $90 plus core charges. A local parts store should be about the same.

Thanks I need to replace everything so I would rather go with the disc the only problem is I would have to figure out something for the parking brake might need one for an inspection sticker. Also will the factory proportioning valve work ok with that setup or will I need an adjustable?
Thanks again, Brian

Those work great!

A friend of mine owns a towing company and he puts them on all his rigs.

If you need a cable operated E brake, you can swap the Chevy calipers for Caddy rear disc calipers, they use the cable, but they will add some to the total. IIRC they would add about $100 more.

Thanks guys I will have to see if RI requires a cable type they might if they consider it an emergency brake incase the hydro brakes fail. I am going to go ahead and order the brackets now that I know I have some options.
Thanks, Brian
