Me and the wife were heading out to a car show in Holley Mi yesterday in the 65. I was a bit hung over from the wedding reception we had attended the night before. Literally cot in the Park and were about a 1/4 mile from the show and she runs over what amounts to a speed bump and rips a hole in the oil pan! I new as soon as it hit the 8 qt pan was done so we shut her down right away so no engine damage but what a drag. Now I am planning on using a 6qt pan from Mancini as long as it will fit. The pan hung down dangerously low with the 8qt and I don't want the worries. I had to cut a piece of the lip off the k member on the passenger side for pan clearance when we installed the motor originally. Anyone have any suggestions for what pan works well in a 1965 Coronet 500 with a 426 Hemi?

I was the former owner of a '65 Sport Fury with the 426 wedge. Comparing the pan from that engine to a '66 Hemi pan, they appeared to be identical other than the Hemi pan was about 3/4" deeper and baffled IIRC. I would GUESS that a stock '66-'69 Hemi pan should work. Sorry I can't be more certain.

I ran the stock C body pan from a 66 440 in my 65 B body. When I went to the Moroso 8 quart it was 66 up.I had to trim a bit from PS for extra clearance.Been on for at least 15 years.Man that must have been one big speed bump.Mine never comes close to hitting anything.Rocky

Yep , I'm with rocky on this , that must have been a MOUNTAIN she went over , people have been driving with pans hanging a mile below the K frame on wagon rutted roads since the dawn of the machine age and NEVER even come close to hitting the pan.
Your wife needs to have her license revoked for that obvious display of driving dereliction ...

If you still have the 65 K frame you need at least 5 1/2" from the front lip of the pan to the beginning of the sump !!
I'm hoping I can pull it without a huge hassle, this is the first time Ive ever wasted a pan like this. Anyone else pull their pan in the car lately? Pull the drag link and hope to be able to finagle around the pick up? I bet the front bolts are a pain.
Not super hard to do, get the centerlink out of the way and unbolt the motor mounts and lift the engine up a little. a 1/4 drive wit ha stanndard size socket easily takes care of the front pan bolts and the pan angles down and pulls back. It would be easier on a lift obviously ...

Looks about where my pan sits.Ohio as we know has all perfect and smooth roads. The pan should come out pretty easy.I install mine from under the car.The bolts that are between the pan and frame are the worst.I lift the engine a bit and use a 1/4 inch drive with a wobble socket on an extension.Even the windage tray isnt a problem.Rocky

WOW! Way to kick a guy when he's down. Ya the road was pretty F$#$%d up and yes the pan sits low unfortunately its a car not a 4 wheel drive guys. I could raise it up and fight the poor handling that comes along with it I guess.. On second thought nope. Ill check on the 402 pan, is that at least 6qts?!
I was just having a little fun I think rocky has a straight front axle under his car, or it only travels on the road when it's on a trailer
You don't want the 402 pan , only a 4 qt. sump., they repop the 66-69 hemi pan now so that is an alternative , or you could try the 70-71 hemi pan , both may require a skidplate to be added , the 70-71 will be just about flush with the bottom of the K and I think the 66-69 pan is maybe a 1/2" below as they had a bigger and beefier skidplate than 70-71 , the skidplate is repopped.

Straight axle was under the other car about 30 years ago.Only time mine is on the trailer is when we went to the track.I would have drove it but if something breaks tows are $$$$$.That and getting 5 MPG or so with race gas at 8 to 12 bucks a gallon it gets expensive. It gets street driven on a regular basis.Rocky

The 1966 to 1969 5 quart 426 Street Hemi pan works fine in the earlier B bodys with either the Hemi or the BB wedge motors The other option would be the shallower Milidon triangle 7 quart pan
Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)

That sums it up nicely.
Never let a critical part be the lowest hanging part on a street car. If you need more volume get a pan with the sides kicked out.
You've got the chance to make it a streetable car now. Sadly, if you built that engine correctly with a pickup hanging down to the bottom of the pan the engine will need to come out to swap the pick up tube for a shallower unit.
If he's lucky it's a world block the pickup comes out with 2 bolts .

I go back home to the southeast Michigan area a couple of times per year. Driving on the Michigan roads is like driving off-road. I don't know how folks living there can keep up with suspension and wheel/tire repairs on their everyday vehicles.

I have a 971 with a 7" sump my Boss brought to work for me to try. I think it is the same pan I have on there now. Im going to take some measurements tonight and see where im at.
It's going to be similar to the one in there, anything deeper than 5" is going to hang below the K .
What block do you have MP or a WORLD ?
A member here had a pan that hung only a 1/2" tops below his K member in an A body with a big block , he was driving on the freeway where they had milled the surface prepping to repave, he came to a bridge and there was a a small ramp they paved to lessen the shock of the surface change and he still ripped a hole in his pan doing about 50 or so.

Stock 1966 Mopar. Do you think if I hang or remove the K member I will be able to swap it out? I really don't want to raise the car up.
