Hardly "big" cubes anymore, but the 498 in my Mirada we shifted at 5800 and trapped around 6200. Flat tappet Stage VI head mill gave us a best of 9.93.

Was shifting my 440-1 headed 572 at 6800-7000 and going 8.48@159.50 but I probably will raise the rpm some when it comes back out with B1 heads.

1970 Duster
Edelbrock headed 408
5.984@112.52
422 Indy headed small block
5.982@112.56 mph
9.42@138.27

Livin and lovin life one day at a time

I have not been out much with the new dragster this year. Many ‘new car” issues.

572 inches, 14.7 compression, 1050 alcohol carb, 440-1 heads, 4.10 gears, Powerglide, 34.5 tall tires.

Both with the S&W hardtail and the new 4 link car, 7000 shift point and 7200/7300 trap…..7.90’s at 168

My 572 turned 7100-7400rpm and went 7.00s at 185mph in a dragster injected on methanol. But it was a chevy. This was in 1992

Way to many variable to gather any useful information here if indeed that is what the original poster is after. But might be fun to see what kind of answers we get. I will say more often that not when we help guys with BB Mopars we usually find wherever it was they were shifting that it was to high. After a day of testing and tweaking we usually find they go faster shifting lower than they think they needed.

To more answer the question directly my old 572" Hemi we found it ran best being shifted at6400, went 8.77 that way at 3100lbs. FWIW I shift my 525" B1 at 83-8400 when we run it all out. The other motor is 499" and is shifted at 94-9700. But neither is your typical BB Mopar

Like every other thing on a race car, if you want to find out what shift RPM is best for your car that day at that track you have to test them to find out I use to think that I wanted the converter to flash close to peak torque RPm and shift the motor at or close to peak HP RPM, my 518 C.i. pump gas 6 pak motor didn't like that at all It wanted to be shifted at 7000 to 7400 RPM That motor made peak torque at 4600 RPM and peak HP at 5600 RPM I had two different converters( ten inch Contintental street and strip and a T/A 8 inch SS/AH race Hemi) in the car and the car ran the fastest shifting it at or above 7000 RPM with either converter

Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)

We'll find out this weekend. My bet is you're correct.
