I'm guessing it's pretty tame or that Edelbrock carb is going to be a problem to tune.

I've had to drive the grease fittings in on more than one occasion.
threading them in was not working.

Use a small socket and be sure to keep from dinging the
spring-loaded ball.

Looking at that picture and the fact that I can see the extra duration I can only come to one conclusion. There is no way an edelbrock carb is going to work on there.

Oh yea those afb, avs, edelbrock are just horrible. I am supprised the NSS cars, Maxi Stockers and so forth will even get to the starting line under their own power. Lol How about the stock class dart that runs low 10's with a single 440 avs. You can tune that design carburator and they work much better than most give them credit for. Steve Wann has run 9.70 in SS with a single AVS.

Nothing against them as far as tunability goes when using two of them, but those carbs are not stock out of the box carbs the SS guys use and many of the metering rods in them are closely guarded secrets. I assure you when I ran a pair of them on my Hemi, what the engine wanted, and what is available in their tuning kit is night and day different. I was to the point of making my own on a lathe to accomidate what the engine wanted. If they had an all togather seperate idle circuit, they would be better.

You can however order custom ones from certain suppliers that will get them to work better, but limited to a single carb really restricts options. Once I drilled the quirters out big enough to get rid of the bog, I ran out of fuel in the bowl. And the rods never had the right combinations, so it takes more than just tinkering to sort them out.

I am rooting for him, and he had two of these working very well on his RB engine, so I am curious to see...So keep up the work, and I very much want to see him succeed here. Especially taking on a new challenge of a new engine like this after having won last year with his previous combo...Been wanting one of these engines as well, but they are initially cost prohibitive to replace the older generation engines with.

I do have an 850 Proform I can send you if you want to try it, at NO CHARGE. It has all the air bleeds for adjustability, and you are welcome to it. I would put it on the dyno and tweek it a little as I have not had enough time to get it where I would like, but its up to you.

good news and bad news

I got the car running last night and it sounds much better. the car got a lot louder than it was, I wouldn't have thought that. I have 17" of vacuum at idle, sounds really responsive

the bad news is my friends that own the dyno, well I had a falling out with one of them and won't be able to go back and see what difference it made which really bums me out. but oh well.

I rechecked the vacuum on the old cam and i was mistakin, it wasn't 28 it was 24"

maybe if it EVER stops raining I will get to drive it.

I don't have a problem with him, he has a problem with me. one of those guys that asks for free stuff for his car than turns around and sells or trades his car 3 months later. he traded away someones CNC'ed heads.
