I remember reading a post a while back about someone with a question about the steering box angle, E body vrs B body. I have attached a pic of my steering box mounted up with a set of what appear to be alignment shims on the top two bolts. I believe these to be original to the car and wonder if anyone else has found these on E bodies they have disassembled. Thought they may explain the question of different steering box angles E body vrs B body.

I doubt they are original because the bolt is not.

E body was the same as 71 B body, but 70 and back B body's were different.

I found 2 shims on my 70 challenger when I took it a part. I assumed it was put there by the factory / dealership to fix some angle issue.

They switched to a hex head sometime in the 70s, but my 70 had that style from the factory.

My 70 Charger had 12 point headed bolts. Yesterday I pulled a steering chuck from a 68 Plymouth wagon. It also had 12 point headed bolts. Maybe they used them because of limited clearance?

I should have said 6 point head... but by 72 I'd say, they have the 6 point style. May have started in 71, but haven't messed with too many 71s to know for sure.

I doubt it was clearance related. Probably cost/availability or maybe the 6 point style were stronger
