Hey all need to pick a cam for my 84 d150 short bed. Truck has 3.55 gears and 904 with stock converter. Plan on going to a500 with 2500 stall converter. The engine is .030 over 360. Stock style pistons sit .073 below deck (uhhggg), magnum heads 64cc, 8.9 to 1, stock valves, with a little pocket porting. air-gap intake, 600 holley, 1 5/8 long tube headers, that exit into 2.5 head pipes, then a flowmaster y that goes to a single 3". What im wondering is what cam do you think would be good for this, it has power brakes, power steering, a/c. truck will be used mostly for cruising around and hauling light things, will hardly ever tow anything, not worried about emissions either. Im looking at the comp xe262h. But what cam do you think would work well? Thanks

had a nearly identical set up (save a 600 edelbrock) in my 3900 lb 5th ave, but with factory smog heads...was pretty good, had some issues with low RPM surging when lockup and OD engaged at 45mph. I'd suggest dropping to the XE256, or the similar sized lunati voodoo and use hughes #1110 springs

oh, and the magnaflow Y's are much nicer than the flowmasters, I've used both
when I built my 318 with mag heads, I used the same hughes #1110 springs with stock rockers and Bullet Cam's HR259/316 roller cam lobe, which is as aggressive as any of the voodoo or hughes flat tappet lobes without issue
I used stock magnum keepers and 2.2L retainers with the hughes springs

Thanks. I think for now I am just going to run a non lockup 904 with a 2500 converter and 3.55 gears. I think the xe262 will work fine for that. Already have the flowmaster y, or I would have probably bought the magnaflow y. SO how did your car run with your combo?
The XE262 is a nice cam. You'll have a little of both worlds. Good torque and good high RPM up say to 5,800. Get the full kit with the XE262.
I ran that same cam in my 383, so it should be real nice in your 360.
