It does take a different mindset because you'd think that'd be WAY too low but it's perfect(.4 mile high banked dirt track) 360 9-1 CR 2bbl by class rules & at the end of the straights it is still pulling strong at over 6400. Those Hughes cams are awesome.

I know you want to keep it all mopar but your best bet is to put a 9" under it and then you can get gears all the way to 7.33. I used 7.00 in my SS on a 3/8 mile dirt. about 6500 at the turn in.89-92 in tire. what really works well is a full floater rear from a modified. If u have any swapmeets or auctions in your area now is the time and u can probably pick one up for what the mopar pig would cost.

A good fried of mine has a '70 Charger with a 2.45 8.75 gear set from the factory. The car does wharp speed without even reving.

Not likely, as stated earlier 2.76 is the lowest factory numeric ratio in the 8 3/4" but the 2.45 ratio was available in the 8 1/4" rear.

I swear I have a 2.72 gearset in a 742 housing from a very early '60's Chrysler. The older pre '60's cars had some unique gear choices, didn't they? I've seen some odd ratios (example 3.36).

Too many cars, too many parts, too little coin, too little space to work in, too little time left to make it all happen! Update: down to one ride, still too many parts, a little more jingle in the pocket, gaining space, and it's going to happen this year!

Robert, I could send you a picture of it, but there are alot of mopar parts in the way, getting to it. Do you really want me to dig it out? The numbers are stamped in the gear set. Every time I've had to dig through that area of the garage, I look at the ratio because I too, find it hard to beleive.

Hobby stock rules prohibit a full floater for safety concerns but I used a car 9" with 6.20's & actually could have gone a bit deeper but I'm old school on this & it didn't feel right have a furd part on the car.

Prohibit a floater for safty conserns??? That is one of the reasons for a floater. If a axle brakes the wheel still stays on the car.Have u ever seen a 10bolt chevy lose an axle(C-clip)? I've seen them go over the catch fence wheel tire and axle. Very dangerous. At the last track I raced at the promoter finlly got smart after a near fatal axle loss and made floaters leagle and rear discs manditory in an atempt to reduce the amount of lost wheels and axles.
Good luck with the ear surch. You may have to bite the bullet and run in 2nd gear (3sp) to get the final drive u need.

I was thinking that floaters were not allowed but I may have that backwards. One season I did run in 2nd with an A230. Right now I am using a 904 in D with the furd 6.20's & I am hoping that toplescuda will be reasonable with me so that I can get that furd out of there then my next plan is to run a 904 in manual 2 & 4.10 gears in a 7&1/4. Everybody tells me that it wont hold up but I am driven to do it & loosing ~100 lbs of unsprung weight is going to be a killer. the spiders are the weakest part & they will be welded solid(which is std procedure) so I am confident
