Not what you want to hear, but I just leave mine off: They're a bit of a pain when doing/undoing latches and they look kinda weird flipped up there when the top is down. I don't use 'em at all and the cars have a "cleaner" look without them.

My 71 Challenger vert has much longer rods than that. And yes AFAIK they are original - the visors are the short vert ones and it has the usual centre clip etc..

FWIW these were out of a '70 and it strikes me that they could easily be pushed into the depths of the visor, never to be seen again.
Perhaps for '71 they upgraded to a longer rod which would butt against the pivot rod.
