I have a 69 340 block and it's bored out to like 26 or 27 over and going to be tq plate honed to size of the 30 over pistons. I hear you are supposed to fill a block before machining but it can also been done after machining. I kind of would like to fill it but if I could get your opinions on what to do that would be very helpful. Combo as of
now is just going to be a 30 over 340 with about 12:1 cr, mildly ported W2's, M-1
intake manifold with lots of plenum work and port matched, 590 purple shaft cam, iron rockers, stock 3.31 stroke.

I heard the crank & heads should be torqued in place then fill the block, then do ur full machine work. Get everything checked.

Damn dude, we are brothers;)! Got the exact same thing and I filled it and let it reach full cure before starting any machine work. If I remember right it was almost a month it sat but I imagine my machine shop guy had other projects to get to in front of mine.

Better get inside Ma. Looks like a storm's comin'.

Yea seems like alot of different ways I hear of people doing it. My main concern is it worth or could I fill the block from where I am already at which is a block thats bored
out a few thousandths below 30 over and will be tq plate honed to size after pistons get measured.

If it hasnt been honed yet do your filling now.. yes
you should let it cure but if its a week old thats
pretty close.. and yes the mains and heads should be
torqued when you fill it(after you pour it in you
torque the head down)... level it in both directions,
fill it to the amount you want then torque the head
down.. give it some time to cure(a couple of days)
then rotate the block and do the same on the other
side... if you are going to build big power it helps
but at your compression and bore I dont think I would
bother... a sonic check would help you make up your mind

What exactly do u mean by a week old? The block has been bored out like it is for a month now. The reason for wanting to do this is for the added hp that I might get over winter. By the way cr is going to vary it could be 11.1-11.5 to 13:1 depending on what we do.

If you let the hard block cure for at least a week
(on the second side) it shouldnt move much after the
week... I still think if you sonic check it, it would
help with you decision whether to fill or not.. JMO

For that little bit of overbore I would not fill unless I knew a cylinder was running thin.
