I am no help,but cool find. kinda looks to me like an add on or optional equipment. I would guess it's much older than 50's. Operative word "guess".

That's the same unit "model 716", the one on eBay is upside down. If the description & part number are accurate, the '59-'60 appears correct: Quote:
Model 716 Recirculating Heater
Chrysler Part Number: 2197898
I looked in my '61 Parts Catalogs and the accessory heater packages w/core & housing in there are numbered 2219 xxx.
