how do you disassemble the cruise control stalk of a 70 Charger? Is it possible to do it without breaking it?

the stalk looks like this:

If it's like the later stalks, there is a tiny roll pin you must drive out. I tried disassembling the pieces of a '77 stalk and it was neither fun nor successful.

I didn't see a roll pin but there is a small round marking close to the button. It could be a hole that is sealed with some sort of plug maybe glued in. I'm not sure if i should try to drill it out but there is no other obvious way...

I have only taken apart the later style with the sliding switch, so I'm afraid I'm not much help. My '71 B-series Compact Van factory service manual doesn't even show the Speed Control parts, and the next newest FSM I have is for '77s.

Hopefully somone can check their FSM and see if the Speed Control stalk is mentioned/pictured.

This thread does'nt directly answer your question but has an exploded view of the stalk after being taken apart and may help... LINK

Very nice, thanks!

I wrote an e-mail to the member who posted the pictures - I hope he gets back to me.

Here's the picture of the disassembled stalk (not mine - have to figure out how to do it):

Dont know if the 68 Charger one is the same, looks very similar. The button on the top is pressed in, takes some careful pulling to get it out with a small vice grip, I wasnt too worried about the old switch as I replaced it with a new push button from radio shack that fit perfectly as this will be my line loc button in the future.
