Hey all hope everyone is well. I havent been on since I sold my 71 cuda, but I recently bought two cudas on ebay, I'm sure some of you saw the ad, a 70 and a 74 with a Hemi. Excited to be back in the fold with you all! I have been working on my damn trans all day in the 70. Fender tag says 904, and even if I disconnect all linkage and move the shift lever attached to trans, I only get 1st, 2nd, and drive, and when in park, the motor is still dragging against the trans. I drove the car all the way back from Albequerque and it was flawless. I have a long bumpy driveway at the ranch, and hit the headers a time or two on the way in. After that, it seemed like it didn't want to go into gear, so I replaced all the grommets in the linkage. Now it dispays the symptoms I described above. Any help, I have been under it all day, and am stumped! Thanks folks, look forward to contributing!!

Does the car try to drive forward in Neutral? If it does and it binds up in Reverse the problem is in the rear clutch, it's not releasing.

This is usually caused by a failed Belleville spring in the clutch.

Yes it does!! Even when in park it seems to be dragging the motor. Sounds like you called it!! Is that a fix without pulling the trans?

No, the tranny is coming out, the Belleville spring is inside the rear clutch....It is what pushes the piston back in causing the clutch to release..Another possiblity is you mention the car bottomed out on the road to the racnh..Is there any new dents in the trany pan? it's possible the valve body took a good hit & now a valve is stuck...If theres no dent then your back to the Belleville spring...

shoot, no dents in the pan. It felt like it wasn't engaging good coming up the road (having to rev it high to get any motion) and then I started messing with the linkage putting in new grommets and stuff because I thought maybe it wasn't going completely into gear. I guess I'm looking at a rebuild??
