What brackets, pulleys, and compressor did you use? I'm wanting to do something like that on my truck. '76 360/auto. Has air now (not working). I'm wanting to go with the newer type pump like you have.
You can PM me if you want.
Thanks

Where did you get those valve covers? I like them!

It is a Sanden compressor. I bought it in a kit form from Bouchillion Performance. I am still working out bugs due to the aluminum heads. The passenger side head juts out forward about an inch compared to the stock iron heads. I had to find a small block alternator bracket for an a/c car. But when I tried to bolt it up, the hole in the aluminum head was in the correct place, and then the one in the timing cover was in the correct place, but the timing cover end was away from the timing cover by the inch the head projected? I have to now try and cut the bracket, and fit it and then mig it together so that it fits both the head and timing cover. I installed a set of march small block pulleys for an a/c car. The crank pulley has 3 grooves as shown. I have a 55" belt on right now and it appears to align itself on the outer alternator groove, the center crankshaft groove and the inner compressor groove just as the Bouchillion instructions say. But now I seem to have issues with the power steering puller lining up with the outer groove in the crankshaft. The fan pullay is dead over the outer crank pulley but the power steering pulley seems to want to be out in front by almost the full width of a groove?? I have ordered and tried two billet power steering pulleys. One from march and one from CVF racing. Both say they are for a small block with a/c, but neither seem to fit. However, when I install the old steel pulley it lines right up? I will continue working this until I get it right but it is a real PITA.

I found the valve covers on ebay. Only issue was wire looms. Nothing out there will go under the recessed socket cap screws. But the covers are really nice heavy tig welded aluminum with a powder coated wrinkle kind of paint. I think these covers can be bought just bare aluminum. But I found these on ebay. I have to make brackets for the rear of the heads to install the wire looms. I just threw the bought brackets away and just used the plastic separators for my custom made aluminum brackets. I will post some pics later.

here is my first attempt at the alternator. I installed it as instructed, but on aluminum edelbrock heads. I put the tabs between the brackets as shown. Notice there is no space between alternator rear and face of the head.

fortunately, the alternator has a double pulley. Notice in the previous photo the belt being on the outer groove. By placing the fron ear of the alternator on the front side of the bracket abd then moving the belt to the inner pulley groove, I think I have it correct for alignment and also some space between the head and alternator. I guess if I have stock cast heads, these issues would not be happening.

a picture of the small block alternator bracket for a 70 and up a/c car. Because the aluminum head projects about an inch forward over the stock head, the bolt on the rear fits fine on the head, but the front bolt which goes to the timing cover is that one inch toooo far forward. So I will cut that one inch out of the center length and weld the bracket back together to get it to work.

Here is a pic of the wire loom bracket I bent from some stock aluminum. I just used the plastic separators and screws from a kit. I also wanted and needed a black spacer for the vertical standoff. I shopped home depot and found a set of tiny vacuum cleaner attachments which included nice hard black plastic tubes which are shown here to get me the standoff height.

now I have issues with getting a filter and line down thru to the stock mechanical fuel pump from my Holley fuel log. Seems it bumps into the back of the compressor oh no!!!! I was thinking maybe an electric fuel pump back near the tank and just a hose up the frame rail and hook into the back rear end of the fuel log??? This gets better and better... LOL

And here is a close up of the fuel log looking right at the back of the compressor. I still need to install a filter. OUCH

and a picture showing the lower bolt tap in the head and also the lower timing cover bolt which are the two bolts that the alternator bracket is suppose to bolt on. Not a lot of space for the fuel line to go thru.

anybody else here that installed a setup like this. If so, what were some of the issues and how did you deal with them. Pulleys are always a real task from one application to the next.

I built my 408 a couple years back using EQ heads on an LA 1988 roller block. The EQ heads had the same issue with the lower ALT bracket. I had to cut and weld the section that bolts to the pad on the head to work. The ALT also needed some clearance to adjust without hitting the head as the Magnum style heads have a pad where the LA heads don't. I am also using the Bouchillon setup but thinking of switching to the Vintage setup as their setup uses both belts on the ALT and A/C.

To how new will these parts work? I see some Ramchargers '92/'94. Good or no?

Does the compressor have a Sanden decal on it or a generic P/N tag?

I purchased what they plainly claim is a Sanden and it came in a generic box with a "Made in China" label. I thought about returning it but didn't have the time to waste. At least the other sellers are honest enough to call them Sanden "type" compressors.
