I'm getting ready to button up my 440. What do you sealer use on the oil pan, water pump housing, water pump, valley pan, intake, oil pump, fuel pump, water neck seals? are there any you don't use a gasket on? I will be using a Milodon windage tray and have two gaskets.

What do you sealer use on the oil pan
water pump housing,
water pump,
valley pan,
intake,
Oil pump,
fuel pump,
Water neck seals?
NONE ON THE ABOVE
to hold gaskets in place I use a dot of 3M weather stripping yellow adhesive"GORILLA SNOT" I call it.
Silicon on the corners of valley pan cover and if needed to seal valley cover to heads
are there any you don't use a gasket on? I will be using a Milodon windage tray and have two gaskets.

Thanks, Fred. The thought of not having to use goo on that pretty new block makes me smile.  I don't have any of that snot you speak of but I've got some clear 3M seam sealer that's pretty sticky. And a follow up question. For ease of installation, which items including accessories and mini starter do you put on before you drop the engine and trans and which do you put on after? How do I set up the headers so that when I drop the engine they are already in place to bolt in without killing my beautiful aprons and them getting in the way?

noithing is better than installing a Hemi from ther bottom . remove K member then mount evrything on the K member. easiest header install ever. not even a scratch on them. riase car lower onto K member

I've seen a couple of posts where guys did it in assembly line fashion. Looks great and I have room but I have my front end completely assembled, bumpers on, etc. I don't know if it would be worth undoing all that.

Gaskets are made to seal. I dont know why everyone thinks you need to use sealer on a gasket, which purpose in the first place is to seal the component! Using a Hi Tack product is fine, if you need to hold something in place, lets say for future removal etc. Let the gaskets do their job, as a gasket. Small and minor imperfections can use a tiny dab of sealer, but I hardly use any sealers on any engine I build. The gaskets are there for a reason. If they leak, then the surfaces are warped, not cleaned,pitted, offset and so forth. Blue, black, grey and red silicone in your oil pan is never a good thing. Buy good gaskets, dont over torque them, make sure surfaces are clean, and all is well...

Buy good gaskets, dont over torque them, make sure surfaces are clean, and all is well...
 Use MoPar RTV black in the corners of the valley pan, and the gorilla snot is available at every parts store if you need to hold a gasket in place for assembly (you can just use a small dab of RTV as well). If I don't have the MoPar stuff the Permatex RTV black works okay.
Don't use the RTV red or blue, they're for Chevrolet and Ford engines, respectively. MoPars get black.

Im with Fred.I do use Permatex brown on some water pump gaskets though.Mainly where they bolt to an aluminum cover like a SB.They usually have some pitting and it might prevent a leak.Rocky

Using quality gaskets is the key.Cheap gaskets will need sealants. Superformance gaskets are excellent.
