Does anyone else find Vintage Mopar seats the most uncomfortable ever made? After about an hour's driving my 69 GTX, I get a pain in my lower back. And that's also using an Obusform. Is there any relief? Are there more comfortable seats available to bolt in?

I have found the 66-67 seats much more comfortable than the 68-69 seats (buckets). I have a back problem that makes it difficult to sit straight up for very long without lower back pain and I think that is the main difference.

The older I get the more my stock 69GTX seats seem to be more uncomfortable and I have been looking at a good replacement. I have read somewhere, maybe Moparts, that people have had lumbar supports added to the stock seats that make them much better for longer trips.

If the "tilt" is the problem you can adjust it by adding additional washers or larger/smaller rubber stops to change the angle..

The split bench seats I have are great, but all my E-Body buckets: awful. Like sitting on a flat stool with a 2x6 for a back rest. Your legs get splayed outward because there is no support and there's no side bolstering to keep your back centered.

My first MoPar, a 75 Dart SE, had the most comfortable seas I ever sat it. Drove it from Chicago to San Diego, but that was back in 84 when I was much younger, who knows today how I would feel about them.

My 75 Dart SE seats are still comfortable. I plan on driving it back to Chicago from Phoenix sometime this year and will let you know!

Compared to modern seating the seats in our cars are crap. I have toyed with the idea of retrofitting some nice Mustang leather seats into the car for a while now. I'm not thrilled with any of the aftermarket bolt ins.

Make sure you find the ugliest late model seats you can find.

I don't really have a problem with them, the lack of adjustability stinks, because any seating position for a long time will get uncomfortable. That said, with infinite adjustments on my late model car seats I can't ever get as comfortable as I am behind the wheel of a 66/67 B body with buckets as far as wheel and pedal location. I feel like the pedals are in the wrong place in most new cars, although thats not directly related to the seats.

Hmm: Yep, I have to agree the only time I really feel at home comfortable is when I'm behind the wheel of a vintage B-body. The vinyl sucks but that's what sheepskins are for on a long trip.

Late model seats aren't ugly, there are lots of cars with nice seats that would compliment the interior of our old mopars. I do think the pedal placement and wheel position of the our cars is better and I think that adding newer more supportive seats would be making a long drive better. I don't want to cover it with a sheep skin, thats ugly and to me does nothing for comfort. I'm not talking half hour ride to a local car show here, I like going on road trips in my GTX.

I just installed a nicely redone pair in a 68 Charger. The are like sitting on mushrooms with zero side bolster. Sorry guys, but it's true.

Just finished the 70 Sport Satellite with factory buckets - tightened the springs, and added new foam . . . oh, and put cloth insert in . . . have found them very comfy for the 3,800 miles I have put on the car so far. Also, drivers seat is factory 6way manual adjustable, so that helps on the long trips too . . .

Hate the bucket seats in my 69 B'cuda...after an hour I have to get out. No side support and I'm short so the seat bottom is to long Wish I had spent more time in them before I spent money on foam and covers. Now I have good looking uncomfortable seats A good friend put Pontiac G6 buckets in his pro street Roadrunner...they look very good in the car

My Charger has the original seats in it, though I did recover them with Legendary skins.
They are better than the average seats that I have seen, but they are sorely lacking in lateral support. I like to turn corners more than drag race. I am seriously considering a change. Every time I crank it on an on-ramp, I have to put my left arm and knee against the door. Left turns are worse. I don't want to press against the console for fear of breaking it.
I'm not a huge guy... Just 5 10" and 190, but these seats were probably never designed to hold a man in place during .90 G turns.
