I have a 1994 Dakota with a 3.9 V6. The front two exhaust manifold nuts keep loosening up. Did Chrysler ever install a metal retainer (similar to the ones used on a Chevy SB) to keep this from happening? If so, do you know the part number?

Don't know about a metal retainer....
But I can say as you tighten the nuts, you are weakening/stretching the OE studs.. And one day the studs will simply break off due to overtighening and heat expansion....
Better to pull out the OE studs now and install some higher quality ARP heat treated studs..

Just my $0.02...

mopar use a conical washer for yrs on the end studs of the 318/340/360 engines along with pre-mag v-6

do you have the conical washer that goes on with the nut?

take a center punch and peen it on a flat and then do it on the opposite flat to help lock it once torqued.

nothing worse than a broke exhaust stud.
