Like many of you, I am trying to find a 3.23 set up for a 489 case and NO ONE seems to have one. What is everyone else doing to get around this? Are there any manufacturers/suppliers that you would NOT recommend going to (due to noise, wear issues, etc.)? What are your thoughts on USED units? And does anyone have the part number for this assembly? I don't want to get a 3.23 for a 741/742 case

Thanks John. Have you tried the Nitro's? I had heard that they are noisy?

I don't think there's any brand that's consistently noisy; if they were they couldn't sell them so it's a crap shoot with any of them.

I have seen where Richmond gets accused of being noisy from time to time and that doesn't seem to hurt them ?

If you are running 4.30s in a drag car gear noise is NBD. If your 3.23s whine on the freeway so bad you want to stick an icepick through your ears to stop the pain, probably a Big Deal. Intended usage and when the gears make noise is the issue, though correct setup is the key to minimizing it.

If Nitro/JT has a 3.23 489 gear in stock (which I doubt), it is NOS.

They do source an aftermarket 3.23 742 ring and pinion, however.
