I am swapping a 9 1/4 into my 1985 d-150 that currently has an 8 1/4. what size u bolts do i need? I have had zero luck with the major parts stores websites. My truck is about 100 miles away right now, so I can't measure what is on it, or measure the donor truck's u bolts either. I am swapping a 1982 small bolt pattern 9 1'4 into my 1985 large bolt pattern truck, both are 2 wd D-150's with 318's in both trucks, what id and length square u bolts do I need?

Same size that's in it. Trucks don't have actual U shaped bolts. their squared and don't go around the axle. The spring plate is what holds the axle in place

When you get to your truck take one out and head to the parts store. Its practically a stock Item. Oh Ill measure some I got from RoughCountry when I get home

the 8 1/4 will use the same u-bolts as the 9 1/4

they are 2.5" square end and 6" long unless it is 4x4 with blocks then they are longer.

installed with the lower shock plate.

4x4 will have a 3.5" lift block so a longer u-bolt 2.5 x 12"

my local spring shop bends any size you need right there in the shop for you. last set I got for a 4x4 was 30$ for 4-12" u-bolts/8 thick washers/8 locking fine thred long nuts.

you can use one of the lowering kits with ne u-bolts from one of the autoparts stores, but most likly have to order them in.

some places are $$$$ so shop around for them if you replace them.

I have always reused mine unless they broke/rust/twist/strip before i replace them. keep a few spares around the shop too.

early 81-84 D truck rotor get you the small bolt pattern up front or a 76 new yorker front rotor will fit the bill and some times cheaper.
