I'm hoping someone knows the difference. I might be switching to a solid in my Charger 440/493. I'm running a 292/509 and plan to switch to a Lunati solid flat tappet and although I have a pushrod checking tool, I was hoping to get a ballpark idea. My current pushrod length is 9 1/8".

If you change lifts it most likely wont work... I
dont know the height differences(and that changes from
1 manufacturer to another) but usually the hyd the
cup sets higher

Push rods are like woman, Better to measure carefully once or chances are you will need to buy another set...

Sorry... I am a newbie on most of this higher end stuff. I figured that there was a specific height for the Hydraulic, another for the solid lifters.

Thank you, so that means an 1/8" difference. I thought it would be more since the solid lifters seem to have a deeper recess.
Also, I thought that Crane went out of business! I am really out of the loop!

Only practical way to tell is to put it together and then measure. If you had all of the measurements for all of the parts you could figure it out, but nobody publishes those numbers.

Lifters are different from mfg to mfg and so will be the base circle on the camshaft. Rocker arm mfgs use different dimensions also so when you change rocker arms you often need different pushrods.

I think I have more than 20 sets of big block pushrods in my pushrod drawer. Every combo needs a different length and I can only rarely use a set over again.

Aint that a bummer. That adds up quick. $$$

You will need new push rods. When I swapped from hyd to solids in the 440.I tried using my Cranes.I could almost get them adjusted but ran out of threads on the adjusters.New set of 3/8 alloys for solids and all was good.Still have the 3/8s for the hydros sitting on the garage floor.Rocky
