My o/d 833 has the rear mounting point but they are not drilled out, just solid where the holes should be. I think that's because the trucks/vans used the front mounting point. A 72 bench seat B body could likely use that shifter/rod combo, but a E body will need the rear mounting location drilled out and the appropriate rods for that position.
It sounds like he has a NON OD trans and an OD shifter off of ???
Maybe it's my tinfoil hat as to why I can't read his mind ???

Based on the info you've provided, no.
E-bodies use the rear tailshaft mount, so the shifter and shift rods would need to have been removed from an A-833 O.D. trans in a vehicle which uses the rear mounting boss- vans and A/F-bodies did not use the rear boss (and I don't think pickups did either), so the rods will be too short for use in an E-body.
I suggest you buy a Hurst Indy 4-speed universal shifter, part number 503 0032, like so:
what he said and NO pickups didn't use the rear mount either .
but yes you could use the OD shifter and rods , it just won't come up in the stock location and you would have to hack a hole in the floor .
the indy universal shifter suck .

I purchased a Indy shifter that is specific for Mopar A-bodies. For the money its a great shifter. Nice tight short throws and very precise.
It has the same body as the old Competition shifter. It has dimples on the body for where the adjustable stops of the Competition+ shifter. I drilled them out and tapped for the stops.
For $150 you get the shifter, adapter mount, rods, levers and all the necessary hardware. The A-body version fits and works great. I don't care for the short 7" handle but for $2 at a local swap I picked up another handle and bolted it on. I would assume the only difference with a "Universal" kit would be the need to bend and cut the rods to the proper length.
Getting back to the original question; The long tail shaft A833OD used in pick-ups and vans had the shifter mounted to the front on an adapter that placed the shifter behind the mount and above the tailshaft of the tranny. If you were to use the entire shifter an adapter on a E-body the body of the shifter would be above the floor of the car. If you were to move the shifter down to where it would be in a car then the rods would be to long.

Don't see why he can't use the shifter box off the OD tranny with an E-bod mount plate and new e-bod shift rods.
